/char/PlanetaryPins data refresh -- gameplay decision or wish-list?

I understand that /char/PlanetaryPins is not updated until you interact with the planet in-game.

Is it this way because CCP doesn't want it to be easier for players/groups to manage planetary industry, or because of technical limitations with the way PI is implemented?

If technical limit, is there any chance CCP would consider changing this "soon?" I really want a tool that will be able to monitor my planets and let me know if they need attention based on current data from the game, instead of projections that are likely to be wrong because the API doesn't seem to expose when the data for a given pin/resource was even updated.

Its a technical decision. Unlike pos and so on, PI only updates its numbers when you interact with it. This reduces the load significantly, as it isn't running on a timer, with all planets needing updated every hour.

The XML API only interacts with the database, rather than the simulation, so it would be a huge change there.

/maybe/ this would change with crest, but its far from an inconsequential changs there, from a load perspective.

Woo! CSM XI!

Maybe CCP have designed the PI system conservatively (and implemented it on 2010 servers) and there could be significant computing headroom available for something like an update every hour or three hours.

Probably not going to happen, sorry.
