Do auto targeting systems have any effect on NPC aggro and help keep rats off my sentries?

I have noticed a significant reduction in drone aggro with remote reps & ewar and I wonder about the auto targeting mod.

At 1 CPU/PG it would make an excellent addition to my plexing ishtar.

fit 1 railgun and your aggro problem is solved, first shoot with the gun (you don't have to hit the target, it can even be beyond 100km), the npcs will aggro the ship because you aggressed before the drones, it's a trick i have used for a long time and it works 100% of the time. npcs never seem to switch over as long as you keep firing the railgun...

Not entirely accurate as there is still a chance for the NPCs to switch to the drones.

Auto Targeting System locks targets that are being aggressive to you, as far as I am Aware is doesn't

Affect the AI of NPC ships
Get you out of ECM lock
Stop you from targeting the wrong ship

It does
Target ships without having to click on them
Target ships that you can't see on overview because there is too many wrecks on there.

Not sure what else it does or doesn't do ?

All rats have chance to switch target if you don't attack.
In my experience frigate/destroyer size aggro sentry/heavy/medium drones immediately upon deploying drones first time with those rats or after spawn. Cruise/BC - sentry/heavy.
Be careful with sentries on aggresive mode. They can pull extra group easy
I use aggresive sentries for some reason. Especially when i face jammers
