On Bombs: Target them.

Bombs are entities in space with a signature radius of 400M. They can be damaged. But at the moment only by AoE style kinds of damage.

I see them in my overview.

Yet there is one crucial thing I can not do: target them.

How silly is that, an object with the signature of a battleship and my ship is unable to shoot it.

A lot of balance would be gotten if cruisers and below would be able to shoot the darn thing out of the air.....erhhh space.

Ehhh. If they had a longer flight time than 10 seconds (12 post-Phoebe), maybe. As it is, you wouldn't have the time to lock one and land a shot on it, let alone multiple, especially when you take reaction time into account.

They only have that sig radius in order to be smartbombed/bombed off. If they were targetable, they would lose a lot of this sig radius. Blink

this would work if you were willing to dedicate a few cruisers to the role they would have to almost exclusively be watching for bombs to lock them as they showed up then one salvo would be more then enough to kill it, but you would need 1ship per bomb or you wouldn't catch them all.

could lead to a new role in a fleet but could very well make it so bombs just can't be used so i like the thought behind the idea but -1


or you could just put more bombers into a wave to get max result +2

I'm willing to bet that bombs are coded similar to probes, and none of them are targetable. They should be, so +1

As to the potential to damage the effectiveness of bombing, or interdiction probes for that matter, a signature reduction is in order.
They are tiny after all, and their signature should reflect that.

On a long enough timeline, the life expectancy of everyone drops to zero.

There is already a 'new role' by those who fly anti-bomber ships. Peeps just like to min-max so much they want all this other stuff nerfed so they don't have to think of other things outside DOCTRINE.

I like the idea. It's a better solution to what CCP have planed and shooting down bombs to save your fleet sounds fun.

I was thinking a simpler solution that would make an otherwise useless feature useful:
Defender Missiles will auto target bombs when activated.

Basically make Defender missiles not just anti-missile but anti-bomb It auto-locks the closest bomb then missile when fired.

Cloaking is the closest thing to a "Pause Game" button one can get while in space.

Support better localization for the Japanese Community.

The nice thing about it is that there's a counter to the counter:
If the enemy brings anti bomb ships you throw more bombs at the same time.

The reaction time for a person to target and shoot a bomb.. would have to be very quick.

Multiply that by 7 bombs..

I get the idea, but you have to be expecting the bomb run. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't.

You run into a little too much guesswork.

10 (12) secs to lock and shoot a bomb is totally doable especially by destroyers and AFs. This would be a good role for them in large fleets. I see no reason that this shouldn't be the case honestly. It makes more sense that the bomb should be destroyed than the bomber to mitigate damage.

Eh, I don't think it would make much difference. If shooting bombs became a thing people would just make bigger bomber wings and launch more bombs per wave. This isn't a balancing standpoint, the number of players needed to do something makes little difference, isboxers can train new characters and coalitions can bring as many people in to fleet as they want. The only thing this would change is that smaller entities with smaller fleets have less of a chance of damaging larger fleets from larger entities, so I don't think this would be a positive change.

but this is the same with the current changes if your going to uncloak each other and lose bomberes place more bombers into the wave to up the chances of bombs landing.


so now not only do you need more ppl but you need to be rich enough to afford 22mill+ losses rather than 1.5
