Crow: Curious about new fits

So.... I'm curious what people are doing with the crow.

With one new high slot and one fewer low slot it can potentially fit a 4th missile launcher but at the expense of speed and dexterity.

So how are you fitting your crow now in Oceanus? Go for the DPS or continue to fit for optimum speed and dexterity for kiting?

My thinking is that the DPS generated by a crow doesn't make it much of a brawler anyway so I'm seeing the missing low-slot as a nerf that I have to work around.

So I'm setting it up like this;

highs: 3x light missile launcher
Mids: Medium shield extender, mwd, point and sensor booster
lows: damage control, aux power (for the medium shield mod)
rids: shield mod and prop mod.

I'm not sure I'm happy with those lows, though. I'm inclined to want to put in an overdrive and a nanofiber and to swap out the medium shield mod for something that will fit without the extra power mod.

I'm not sure what CCP had in mind here. It's not going to become a brawler because there are much better bralwers available and as a kitey tackler it wasn't over powered as it was so I don't see the need for a nerf. So... have they nerfed it for no reason or am I just missing the point somehow?

Any thoughts?

The Crow is an excellent Combat inty.

Just don't fit LMLs, try this instead;

[Crow, rocking]
Damage Control II
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer, Nanite Repair Paste

Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I
Experimental 1MN Afterburner I
Faint Epsilon Warp Scrambler I
Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor I

Rocket Launcher II, Scourge Rage Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Scourge Rage Rocket

Small Ancillary Current Router I
Small Bay Loading Accelerator II

Yeah that much is clear.

They're good scout ships but they need speed to survive. They don't need a lot of DPS but they should be able to protect themselves from another interceptor at least. That's the reasoning behind the bigger than average buffer and the longer range weapons. It gives you the GTFO option provided your clicky-skills are good enough and you aren't dumb enough to get inside scram range. For a scout this is what you need and the reason why this change looks like an old-school nerf as opposed to some kind of balancing.

Danny's fit is more of a hero tackle. It's good as a support ship with a fleet. However, because it requires the dual prop and the web if you want any chance to GTFO it has the tanking power of a mosquito in a fly-swatter factory. Normally we set these up on condor hulls so they're not expensive to lose. On a scout you'd be hard pressed to tackle anything with it and hold on long enough for your friends to jump and warp to you.

Damage Control II
Type-E Discriminative Signal Augmentation

Coreli A-Type 1MN Microwarpdrive
Republic Fleet Warp Disruptor
Alumel-Wired Sensor Augometation
painter, td or phased moun or another rep fleet point

Rocket Launcher II, Mjolnir Javelin Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Mjolnir Javelin Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Mjolnir Javelin Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Mjolnir Javelin Rocket

Small Hydraulic Bay Thrusters II
Small Rocket Fuel Cache Partition II

32.8km rockets 37.5km point makes it a decent support inty aswell.

I'd wager that the Crow's popularity will take back off once people adapt to the changes, albeit not back to it's previous levels. Cows can still fit LMLs, go reasonably fast, and safely orbit their target at 25+km, just like before, they just can't do it while sporting an MSE, and they don't do quite as much damage while doing it. (EDIT: Yes, the Crow can still fit an MSE, just not while going fast and sporting a full rack of LMLs. The Oceanus Crow makes you choose.) I know people scoff at the loss of the EHP from the MSE, but there are two things to consider:

1. 'Ceptors have a bonus reducing their signature radius for a reason, why on Earth would you increase it? (Hint: speed is only half of speed tanking.)
2. The Crow's new damage application bonus makes them wonderful at killing drones.

Basically, the Oceanus Crow is kind of like the pre-Oceaneus Malediction, only slower. I still prefer the Malediction though: faster, more durable, smaller sig, and absolutely the dead-sexiest frigate in the game IMO.

This is an expensive killmail waiting to happen it's got no buffer and even if you're fast, something is bound to instablap you eventually

Sarum Magnate takes that reward for me, although damn useless unless a newbie explorer.

That will eventually happen anyhow. better to stay at range giving fast points and some sort of ewar on a target or two.

The stupid thing is I never really cared much about the DPS on the Crow or Male. Its all about pointing and staying alive. The rest of he fleet handles the DPS part.

I still use the same Male fit I had from before the patch.

I still fear the crow.

Even with damage, I never once feared it for its damage output. Ever. Period.

I fear it for its agility, speed, and point range.

Boooooo hoooooo damage was nerfed.

Seriously, if you were depending on crow damage over ALL the other great aspects, you did crow wrong. Simple as that.

So now it takes a bit longer to kill with a crow. That's it. Nothing else changed.

After nerf I am more scared of a crow. It means someone knows what the changes are and will still get me killed.

Overall, interceptor is supposed to intercept not be an all in one. I think it is fine. If you just simply cannot live with killing someone 20% longer, can I have your stuff?

So far I've spent the majority of my time reading this thread trying NOT to throw up at these fits people are posting...

People don't seem to understand that any turret 'ceptor that can effectily hit to 20+KM will smash a crow.

The crow has been uses for the same reasons for YEARS

1. It has a long range, meaning no need to get in close to apply damage.
2. No need to worry about tracking - e.g. easy to fly in combat situations
3. It has good volley damage for use in gangs.

The reality is that it's a terrible 1v1 ceptor. It's not all that fast, it's got low DPS and it can't take much damage, even with an MSE fitted

This changes nothing other than this: Crow pilots know that they lose a lot of DPS to other ceptors moving quickly. These changed take you from 4.5 effective launchers on kinetic (The highest natural resist on almost all ships) to 4 effective launchers with all damage types, but with better damage application.

The big problem is the fitting. The Crow is very hard to fit now and generally is a lot slower than most other cepters.

Not that I care, All the easier for me to escape from.

I was thinking something like this :

[Crow, Tankisforpussies]
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II

Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I
Warp Disruptor II
Faint Epsilon Warp Scrambler I
Phased Muon Sensor Disruptor I, Targeting Range Dampening Script

Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Light Missile

Small Warhead Calefaction Catalyst I
Small Warhead Calefaction Catalyst I

basically kite at max range and have scrambler heated incase something burns in close.

edit : its also cheap.
