If he is a troll, then he is the best kind. Any actual new player reading this thread would get a lot of good information, and if OP is new he's quite sharp.

Sounds like a target painter effect. Target painters increase the target's signature radius to make them easier to hit. Each npc pirate faction has a taste for a specific flavor of ewar. Serpentis use sensor damps, Guristas use ECM, Blood Raiders use tracking disruption and neuts....etc. Angels use target painters.

I'm with Cara. He may or may not be new, but as I define trolling, this is not it. Whether or not he is trying to troll, the discussion has good info.

Finally someone else but Sol and yours truely spot that this is just an not so obvious troll.

I'm on a trial account and this is the only forum I can post in apparently. Why are people claiming I'm a troll? I'm playing the game, reading evelopedia, reading EVEUni, reading guides and reading these forums. You people of anyone should understand that there is a ridiculous amount of info out there to digest about this game, so why am I getting flak for asking questions? Isn't this like, the one place you should be allowed to ask what I can only assume are questions about very basic concepts of the game, without fear of reprisal? Or am I be being trolled? If so, that's in pretty poor taste, even for a troll.

Anyway, back to the game. I'll be back with more questions (if that's okay with you, Gregor and J'Poll, of course).

Cool, thanks. I'm going to keep playing the adv military agent and then move on to the epic arc. I was hoping that I'd get a destroyer for free since I can't afford to buy and lose one yet. Does anyone know if you get a free destroyer from adv mil or epic arc?

Use Meta Level 4 items, i think the minmatar guns are the "Scout" ones. Use the long range ones, artillery i think are called.

Pretty sure you get a dessy after finishing the tutorials. Along with its associated skillbook. I still miss my old dessie before I got it killed to a suspect in highsec.

Does this look about right? I'll be fighting the enemies in the SoE epic arc (rebel drones I think), so it's the same resistances:

Emergency Damage Control
Pneumatic Stabilization Actuator I
Small C5-L Emergency Shield Overload I
Small F-RX Prototype Capacitor Boost
Experimental 1MN Afterburner
200mm Light Gallium Machine Gun

So far this fitting is working well. I'm going to try and artillery fit soon, to see how i like that gameplay.

I have some more questions:
I did some security missions last night, and one of them was The Blockade, where I have to defeat some waves of frigates and then a station creating stasis fields. When I was done, I was looking around at all the "scenery"... the objects all over the place, like a "merchant gate" and a bunch of other "merchant" objects. They were white on my overlay. I'm not sure how to treat these things. In many modern RPGs, you would destroy and loot everything. I started to do that, destroying one small thing looking for loot and pretty explosions, but nothing was left behind and I thought maayybbeee I shouldn't be doing this.

Can someone talk to me about the mission "scenery"? Is all that stuff just there for looks? Can you destroy them without consequence, or may you lose standing with something? If you lose standing, would the safety feature warn you before doing that? Is there a way to see if you did lose standing, or whatever the negative consequences may be? Do those objects even ever leave loot when you destroy them? Or can you just destroy them for fun with nothing happening either way?

I guess if someone can sort of talk me through the options of how to treat all this set dressing, so I know what I want to do with it. Does that make sense?

You don't need to type it out by hand, in the fitting window you can copy a text version of the actual fit this way:

  1. Click "Save"
  2. In the Save dialog, click "Copy to Clipboard"

Once you have a fit that works for you, save it. Having it saved means it's easier to replace your ship if you lose it, and easier to share you fit with others when talking about it. For this particular fit, I would save it with a mention of "low skill" and point out the PG/CPU required to fit it.

The main thing to remember with long-range weaponry is to exploit that long range. Being further away from enemies generally means that you will take less damage.

Be aware, though, that Serpentis are very strong at close range (you'll take no damage at all, then you get within blaster range and your hull evaporates in a few seconds), while Guristas are strong at everything up to long range since they specialise in long range missiles and ECM (and ECM is a right royal pain in the neck). Do not underestimate the incoming damage from Guristas missions, you're better off fitting for speed and high damage output.

There are some structures which drop loot. Often the loot is only a few rounds of ammo, sometimes the loot is skill books worth 10M ISK, or implants worth 5-40M ISK. Everything about missions has been extensively catalogued, so you can always read the cheat sheets if you wish. Otherwise just keep blowing stuff up to show that you are a merciless capsuleer with no regard for the mortals whose homes and lives you are callously destroying :)

Make sure to leave your "safety" on Green (that's the round button with the green/yellow/red dot to the top left of the capacitor display). With the safety on green, you will not end up making irreversible mistakes in hi sec.

Apart from a little bit of loot and pretty explosions, the scenery in mission space is just that: scenery. Oh, and sometimes death traps which obstruct your path so you can't warp out when you've made a mistake. We used to have dust clouds whose primary purpose was to melt GPUs, but the folks at CCP decided that wasn't a good idea, and removed a lot of the dust clouds.

Most of the stuff in those missions are just scenery but they can drop random items, such as those little casinos that drop hookers and drugs in "damsel in distress" for instance, but in 9/10 shooting those isn't worth the ammo wasted (so use lasers instead).

I'm getting this fitting from pyfa... thanks for the tip on "copy to clipboard"!

So this is my current fitting. As you can see, I've switched to artillery. Unfortunately, I cannot fit the 280mm cannons (not enough power). I'll be using this for the SoE epic story arc (which I've just started). I'm using depleted uranium ammo in general, as it has a nice spread of damage type (and seems to hit hard). Thoughts?

EDIT: it seems I can fit my "counterbalanced weapon mount I" in place of the overdrive (or dam control, but i figure I need that). Thoughts on that too?

Emergency Damage Control I
Overdrive Injector System I

Small C5-L Emergency Shield Overload I
Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I
