Warp Passed a Location To 100 Kiliometers

If we can "warp to" a location from 0 to 100km, why can't we have "warp passed" a location to the same degree?

This just seems a no-brainer to me. I'm sure this must have been mentioned before, but I can't find a thread on it.

This would create a whole new dynamic to positioning fleets for PvP and PvE. Warp-ins could actually be useful when chasing down faster ships with slower ones, or landing a close range ship in the thick of a mission room.

The whole process of positioning ships & fleets would feel more natural and allow further innovation in strategic and tactical positioning.

I can't see what additional consideration would be needed to allow this to happen unless I'm missing something.

How would you incorporate this concept into a useful strategy though? Either you warp in 100km away or you warp in 100km past the object. I guess i'm not seeing how this could implement into a useful strategy. If you want a different angle in which you warp in to something you could just warp to a different object in space and then warp back right? I don't see anything bad about your idea, but i don't see anything good either i guess. Maybe you could elaborate OP?

I am 50km from you chasing you. My friend warps 100k past me. He is now 50k on the other side of you. We have just boxed you in.
Currently you need a celestial aligned correctly on the other side of the person so they can warp 100k short. This opens up additional celestial bounce possibilities. Also changes on grid warps to fleet members a bit.

easy i have a cloaky squad member at 75km from the target now that i can warp past him 75km onto the target. This removes the need of the clocky pilot to get close enough to make a BM risking de-cloak or positioning himself in line with the fleet and the target.

overall -1

this also lets you now warp 250km minimum distance from your bm so also no

Exactly this. I am also talking about allowing the increments seen for warp-to. Warp-Passed: 10km 20km 30km, up to 100km.

This would be a massive nerf to Snipers, Kiters and soloists in general. None could allow an enemy to get within 130K of them. It would be routinely easy to trap them with a friend. Another win for the blob. -1

Totally depends on where your blob warps in from. Maneuvering a target so you could apply an effect within a meaningful range would still take skill.

The distance you pass a target is relative to your position with the warp-to, not your target. Your blob would have to be directly behind your warp-to and the target to land on top of them.

Moving up or down on a grid would be an effective counter measure for those wishing to reduce this chance.

This change only adds to game play rather than the "look, my ship is faster than yours in a straight line" boring game play. If you're in a fast kiting ship use your manual piloting skills to better effect. If your in a sniper fleet, just make sure your perch is above or below the line of the celestials.

Snipers and kiters could use a few nerfs.

I'll give you kiters maybe (but only because lol-links) but snipers? God no.

I don't think that snipers are any more powerful than they should be, in fact I think that sniper fits are comparatively well balanced. They do one thing, and they do it well at the expense of everything else. I'm really just opposed to non-commital risk averse fighting.

You couldn't find another thread where this was proposed...?? Did you use more than 5 minutes with the search tool?

I'd agree, were on grid probing something that wasn't a thing. It should take good warp ins, interceptor pilots and some skill to dislodge people set up in proper locations. Not a magic button push>fleet warp>lol.

They do it well at <150km out, which isn't really sniping range and can be covered by a fast frig in ~30 seconds.

I dunno, this might actually be a reasonable counter to the fiasco that is on grid probing.

Remember, to warp beyond something, they'd need something actually able to warp to.
