Mining is fine OP. Just make sure to do it fully tanked and AFK. This way you can do regular things at home - dinner, TV, sperging with corpmates, whatever - while making ISK. The key to mining is to do it when you wouldn't otherwise be doing much on EVE anyways.

Now instead of worrying about making ISK while actually playing, you can do what you want to do, be it PVP or scam or whatever.

Hey guys.

Depending on your situation, if you can afford it you could always buy a PLEX to sell on the market. That way you'll have a ton of ISK for what you want to do and not have to worry about making ISK for a start and get ship fitting skills up.

Check out the e-uni newbie skill training guide to get you started. Join someone like RvB for a while for as much practice as you want, or e-uni if there's a particular part you want to learn, then decide where you want to go!

OP do not go Mining first. Train a combat ship first. Do missions or PvP or simple ratting. But learn how to defend yourself first and foremost.

Mining: Never do it afk....not because of gankers....but because you can with a survey scanner actually mine more efficiently...more efficient = faster. As a miner always make sure drone and shield and core skills are fairly high if not maxed out. a Proc can mine enough by itself to fill an orca in about 1 hr 37 mins not being afk. And a proc can have massive tank.

Missioning: depending where you are at(faction), you can make lots of ISK even just doing lv3's one your skilled enough to do them....proper skills, proper ship, proper fit....in the time it takes to run the longest lv4 mission+salvage (from what i read/heard of others about 20-40 mins) you can easily kill every rat and turn in 3-7 lv3 missions. IF you dont care about the opposing faction standing.....never skip a storyline...LP's and the implants can both be useful and a nice influx of cash.

PvP: ganking----other miners in your way or competing with them....gank them if you wish. Losec roams can be fun even solo especially while your learning...i suggest grabbing a rifter i know plenty of peeps that have taught themselves that way as a starting point. Join FW----plenty of chances their to die and learn how to not die as often. Then you have pvp corps....mercs, professional gank groups, pirate ransoming. and then there is WH and nullsec. I wouldnt suggest the bountyhunter/whiteknight as a way to earn isk....but if that type of gameplay is what you like go for it.

There are other isk making ways as well...
Exploration
Market Trade
Scamming
Industrial: This is what i do my self...it is buidling things...requires a sense of the market, what pvpr's use and lose, what non-pvpr's always lose....for best results req RW networking skills, a sense of ingame politcs in your region and abroad, skilling up your industrial, trade, research skill very high, oh and reprocessing.......some patience, and at times not giving a hoot about your possible competitors. Done correctly....you can mine....but minig is not required.

All these things can make you ISK to supplement your game play....best results though is mixing and matching the inherent play styles....and above all....Have fun in your choosen primary profession!

Don't spend money on buying plex. You'll put real value on what you buy with the ISk you get, and you don't learn that you can do more with less. There is 0 need to buy plex.

Do join eve university, adhocracy, brave newbies, etc. they teach a lot, have a lot of action, and you don't need to invest any Isk into it, just time.

Yaay!!!!

There are lots of reasons to buy PLEX with money.

Like not wanting to waste time making ISK. That's a huge one.
Another one is that buying PLEX brings CCP money.
The next is that selling them on the market lowers the price.

Wow, that's three already... and you don't even know one.

Now if only we could buy killmails with money to avoid wasting time making them, we could avoid this whole annoying 'actually playing the game' thing altogether.

I should reiterate, don't invest in plex. There is no need to plow in 10's to 100's of dollars just to get isk, especially at the beginning.

It is not hard to make money.

Don't go buying expensive toy's thinking you'll win. You won't.

You spend your time as you will though.

10.5 year vet...

Welcome to eve.

What hooked me was.. *gasp* mining. I happen to be one of them weird-o's that enjoys 'boring' task (mining, recruiting, run 30 pos' solo before the fuel changes, running an alliance, being head diplomat etc) Mining is a great way to start playing, its relaxing and gets you some decent isk. My advice, if you are thinking of a career in mining get into a venture first. don;t go right to barge, and i'll tell you why. A venture is super easy to train for, so you can start mining today. And if lets say after a day of mining, you want to stab your eyes out with a fork (some peoples reaction) then you only 'wasted' a small amount of skills and not months on something you hate. Also, the venture allows you to make some isk while you train for the barge, its an efficient little miner.

Thats my two isk, get into mining in a venture to make sure you like it. Don;t dive in if you are unsure.

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

afk mining suggestions ?

Mine while you post on the forum.

Mining Ship - Venture

This ship is the small mining ship, you may be able to get one free from a mining career agent.

In fact if your character is not being helped by an existing player, I would advise doing all the career agent missions first because they give you free stuff.

I say free but you do have to complete their training missions to get the reward. Sometimes they give you stuff when you accept the mission that you use to complete it..

I think the security agent gives a Destroyer which you can fit lots of guns/space weapons to. Saves mining the Ore to sell to get the ISK to buy one.. see makes sense. If you buy one first you might be able to do the mission faster and at the end you will have more than one.

The mining part is the more relaxing part but it still isn't entirely safe to be AFK. Drones are the defence most mining ships like to use because the gun ports can then be used for mining lasers instead.

If you get killed, your ship is destroyed, get a new ship, simple as that, NPC's will not shoot your pod.

If a player shoots your pod, your character won't lose any skills as a new character, your new clone wakes up in station. You get a free rookie ship each time you die which you will probably not want because you can usually afford a better one.

Exactly the same as me, I would come and say hello but The Gallente Navy will shoot me on sight if I enter Gallente space.. lol

Get a tristan with 5 hobgoblins! With this ship you can do up to lvl3 missions (except The Blockade).

Message me in-game for more info with fitting and skills. This is, imho, the easiest way to play for a new player with minimal ISK requirement.

Mining is a valid way to get money early on, but you have to skill into Procurers or something...
