Suggestion on how to make Planetary Interaction fun (For the future)

Ever since i started playing EVE, I've dreamed about managing my own planetary colony. When PI was announced, i was very excited. The day it was deployed, as well as the preceding weeks on test server, i logged in and played around with it just for fun.

Recently however I've seen that people think of it as no more than a mildly boring click-fest, and while i can relate to that, i also know that EVE is a game 'supposedly' about spaceships so asking too much from a mini-profession might get into the way of that. So I started wondering what could be a good way to make PI more fun in a way that wouldn't make CCP spend too much development time on.

The answer is a simple one: TTD

What is TTD? In the world of gamers, its the acronym for Transport Tycoon Deluxe, a 1996 economic/sim/strategy game turned freeware that still has people playing it today, after 15 years! (with an average of maybe 10k people still playing it no less!). If this is the first time you hear of it, then I feel sorry for you on missing out on this game, you can try it out if you google OpenTTD.

How would PI improve if inspired by TTD? First of all, anyone who has played TTD back in its day or like it will identify this as a must implement idea, but to list the improvements:

- Doesn't subtract anything from the core function of PI
- It makes the click-fest bearable
- Removes boredom
- It will add a mini-game in eve that has the potential to bring subscribers from it alone. TTD is addictive and fun, its longevity speaks for itself i think.
- Doesn't require much development time, this game was created by a single person in 1996, I'm sure CCP can crack the whip on the Atlanta guys again and develop PI improvements inspired from this in a few weeks time.

This is a simple suggestion, that can be used next time the decision to improve PI in any way, shape or form is taken. Sorry for bad english.

Meh, I've seen many posts about PI, but I still don't think it's good to have mini-games in EVE. If you can at least shoot PI structures with spaceships I'd be fine with it though.

Ill wait for Dust 514 see how that applies to PI.

The fun part of PI is the building of infrastructure, once it's up and efficient enough there's nothing else to do besides picking up your profits.

On my way to destroy an Interbus Customs Office right now.

So you and tankus2 are seemingly suggesting a "Sim City" style of "mini-game" for the PI?

Hmm, sounds interesting.

I say we wait for Dust 514 first though. I want to see where taht is going first before they go changing how PI works. I would like to build military bases and such though. Go all Sim City on it.

I wonder if they have Godzillas on the planets of Shuria... hmmmmm.
