I still dont understand PLEX :(

Good morning. I was just reading up on PLEX and sadly I am still a bit confused.

It sounds like a pre-paid game card for 30 days... OK..
So then why would I use PLEX when I could just pay my monthly subscription? Other than tradiing it to people, I dont understand its practical use.

Could I use it to get another 30 days free trial out of my trial account, so that I may decide if I want to subscribe or not?

If you make enough ingame money to buy a plex every month: you don't have to pay rl money to continue to play Eve.

That said, in your early months, thats an awful lot of ISK to collect and spend everymonth so its recommended not to burn out playing Eve simply to buy more game time to play more Eve to buy more game time.

It does provide an option to make ISK if you have disposable income as well: You can purchase Time Cards and convert them to PLEX then sell those PLEX to others who wish to pay their subscription with in-game money.

In addition, this demand on PLEX also makes it an interesting trade good to play on the market with just like any other in game item. The high cost of them may be your barrier to that though at first.

EDIT:

If you add 1 month of game time to your account with a PLEX, you will no longer be trial and all the restrictions will be lifted as you will have become a full, paying account. Albiet for one month.

Time added by PLEX adds to the remainder of your trial time too, so if you had 21 days of trial, and used a plex on day 1;

You'd be a full account with no restrictions for 51 days at which time your account would expire unless renewed RL money or another PLEX.

That depends on the price any player makes a PLEX available for ingame just like any other in-game item.

The PLEX are listed under Pilots License Extenstion under Trade goods on the market I think, and you can also check contracts to see if you can find a good price somewhere.

Last I heard they were about 460 mil in the Jita area, but every region will likely have its own deals / rip-offs so feel free to look around in the market while about your day to day business.

It's pretty simple:

Dude A buys PLEX using real money
Dude A gets PLEX item in-game, which has only one use - extending the game time on an account by 30 days
Dude A can then sell that PLEX on the player driven market in-game for whatever price he wants
Dude B buys the PLEX and can use it to extend his game time by 30 days

Thus, it's a way to turn real money into ISK at an exchange rate determined by the market, and ALSO a way to pay for your account without having to spend actual money. CCP doesn't lose out at all from this because someone had to have bought the PLEX from them in the first place with real money anyway.

PLEX is traded in-game as "30 day Pilots Licence Extension" - just search the market for "30 day".

actually, it's "30 day Pilots License Extension (PLEX)" ... so searching for "PLEX" will work just as well (note, it's case insensitive).

A plex is an in game item that you either buy directly from CCP (expensive) or convert from game time codes (GTC) which is cheaper.
As since PLEX is an ingame item it cannot be sold for RL-money ($'s) unlike GTC's that exist only outside of game.
So 1 PLEX equals 1-month (30d) of game time but as an in game item it can be used various ways such as currency conversion to NEX store, buying fanfest tickets and ofc. adding game time to account.
Also since a PLEX is sold on market IN game it has a certain inherited value to people because of the way it's created ie. someone somewhere has paid 15€ worth of cash for it.

This also means that once you get wealthy enough to make at least 400mils a month in game you can essentially play this game 'for free' when RL-money is conserned.

PLEX is CCPs method of enabling RMT in it's online RMT farm.
