Ship Model Nitpicking: Turret Hardpoints

So, in my ongoing ship spinning endeavors, I've noticed a couple of things about a couple of ships.

First off, the Hyperion. Apparently it was rebalanced while I was inactive, reducing the number of turret slots to 6. I'll admit, I'm still a little bent out of shape about that, but what really keeps me scratching my head is why the two "extra" hardpoints are still on the ship's model. I don't want to fly a ship with an extra two Hardpoints just sticking out, doing nothing. So either the art team could do a quick pass on the Hyperion to make it reflect it's new slot layout....or maybe we could get a Hyperion Navy Issue that has the old slot layout. Or....maybe nothing will be done because I'm one of three guys who actually flies a Hyperion. Isn't that what the rebalance was about in the first place?

Second, the Algos. Lovely little ship, too big to be adorable, but too small to be cumbersome. Nice little drone carrier. Anyway, I noticed that when I fit five Railguns on it, the first gun ended up in impromptu spots on the front and back, top and bottom of the ship. The next four went on the circular hardpoints on the drone pods, leaving the fifth such hardpoint empty. This was easily fixed by rearranging the gun rack, using the first slot for a Salvager, and the next five for the guns. Slightly annoying, but one would think it shouldn't be terribly hard to fix.

Has anyone else noticed these kinds of things? I remember way back when I kept gawking at a missing polygon somewhere on the Maelstrom, but they finally fixed that.

Art team seems hellbent on the idea of not doing a quick pass on anything, and giving ships a complete re-model. The order in which they do so seems to be governed by a game of pin the tail on the Fedo with lots of pub-crawling involved.

Hyperion isn't the only one with extra hardpoints at the moment. We'll just have to be patient.

This gets brought up every so often.

What I remember the DEVs saying (during some round table event at Fanfest) is that they prefer to have ships with "extra" hardpoints so they are not dependent on the art team to "redo" a ship each time they have to rebalance it.

For some ship models this works because it isn't glaringly obvious... other ships like the Hyperion, Myrmidon, Prophecy, etc... not so much.

For the time being, just imagine the old "hardpoints" on the Hyperion as "docking rings." That usually satisfies my mild OCD.

If you are playing zoomed in enough to actually see your ship, you're playing the game wrong.

If you play the game zoomed out all the time to just see a purple ball, you are playing the game wrong. Also, if you cannot zoom in to see ship models, you should consider upgrading your stoneage hardware or sue your internet provider for better bandwidth.

BTT:

I would not mind a fix for the Prophecy's hard points. In case you use it with turrets, some of them on the wings shoot through the ship to hit objects on the other side of the ship.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Got a few more.... Dragoon 6 high vs 7 hardpoints and my favorite, *sniff* *sniff*

The Myrmidon

And yes, I rather have the extra highs then the remodel Blink

My answer would not be what Rivr said, it would instead be a question: "If you never zoom in or admire your ship, why do you play the game at all?" I bet there are games like "Spread Sheet War" out there, which can dismiss any consideration towards pleasing visuals.

Changes to the models will not happen until the balancing team are finished and keep their grubby fingers from the high slots long enough to have a remodelling pass on the affected ships.

It's an MMO, balance of ship go be changed at any time so re-doing art asset that might have to be re-done again is stupid. At best they could make them a bit less obvious but removing them completely is just asking for trouble down the road.

What's funny are the new Destroyers released in 2012 also have extra hard points. At least, the Dragoon does. 6 high slots, and 7 hard points. Thankfully, grouped up as 3 and 4 hard points on each side, and I use 3 launchers and 3 neuts on mine, so... first three high slots to fill in the 3 hard point group and then it doesn't look so bad. Other ships do not have this luxury. *Looks at the Drake.*
