EFT and afterburner align times

So I noticed that EFT shows different align time with AB turned on and off. I thought, and read on forums many times, that propulsion mods dont change align time since it doesnt depend on max speed.
It could be because AB adds a lot of mass to the ship, but then it wont matter whether it is turned on or off since AB is already on the ship. Also the fitting window in game itself doesnt show a mass change when you install AB on your ship.
So what is up? Do ABs and MWDs actually change the align time due to added mass? Kinda hard to test it in the game, since whether your calculated align time is x.01 or x.99 seconds, the ship will enter warp after x+1 seconds.

Yes. AB's and MWD's do increase align-time a lot.

The mass increase is applied only when the module is active.

EVE is what happens when the rule of law does not apply and Darwinism is allowed to run freely.

That would make sense with EFT, not in terms of common sense though. Anyway it is good to know! Thanx :)

When active, prop mods will increase your ship's mass and therefore make it manoeuvre more sluggishly - among other things this means that if you can maintain an orbit at 500m/s at 8km from your target you will not be able to do the same at 2.5km/s.

This can effect "align" times but...
If your ship is already aligned, at 75% full speed or greater and with its prop mod switched on and attempt to warp you will do so instantly in the normal manner.
If your ship is already aligned, at 75% full speed or greater with its prop mod turned on and just prior to attempting to warp you allow the prop mod to cycle off, your ship will have to slow down from its boosted speed to the top limit percentage of your new top speed (I can't remember what the upper limit is but I want to say 225%) before your warp begins.
If your ship is travelling at speed with the prop mod turned on and, without turning the prop mod off, you initiate warp in a different direction more than (IIRC) 10° from your current vector and (again IIRC) less than 90° your ship will attempt an orbit style turn to come to its new heading, maintaining as close as it can to top speed... this will lead to very long "align" times...
If your ship is travelling at speed with the prop mod turned on and, without turning the prop mod off, you initiate warp in a different direction more than (IIRC) 90° from your current vector your ship will decelerate, turn and accelerate again - I'm not sure whether this is faster but it does make you a good target...
If your velocity is zero and therefore your vector is a point (eg: after jumping) and you initiate warp and then activate your prop mod for a single cycle almost all ships will enter warp immediately on conclusion of that cycle. It is therefore possible for a ship with an EFT align time in the tens of seconds to warp after only 7.5 seconds using an AB from gate cloak.

If you look in the fitting window you can see the mass increase when you turn your propmod on ingame and then go back down when it is deactivated.

The one exception is if your base align speed is more than the cycle time of the prop mod, if you then pulse the mod for one cycle it'll help you get into warp faster.

Yes, yes I am. Thanks for noticing.

Yeah, I know. The infamous MWD trick :).
