Mining Tutorial

OP:

1) Are you mining in a Venture, or some other ship? (The venture has a special cargohold to store a LOT of ore)
2) Do you know how to pull up the Agent/Mission conversation window? (It will use checkmarks to show when mission objectives are complete)

Tips:
- in starter systems sometimes you can ask your question in local and someone will answer
- in the help channel don't be afraid to ask your question again after it has rolled off the top of the screen.
- dotlan.net has a wonderful system map feature to help you figure out where you are and where you want to go (look under the 'universe' tab)
- The Industry & Business mission agents give out related items. Sometimes it helps to bounce between the two agents.
- Sometimes you can just buy what you need in the marketplace to complete a mission
- You can find asteroid belts, stations, etc. by right clicking in open space when you are outside the station.

Edit: Darn, just saw in another post that OP is moving on to something else after typing all this.

Things a new player should know:

1. You start with a rookie ship (Velator for Gallente). This ship is equipped with 1 civilian mining laser and 1 civilian blaster or railgun, I forget which (or other appropriate civilian gun for other races). This ship is perfectly capable of doing most, if not all of the tutorial missions.

2. As you do the tutorial missions, you will get ships and skill books. The ships will be more capable than your rookie ship, but also more specialized (you can mine in a combat or other frigate, but you'd be better off in a Venture, the dedicated mining frigate, of which you get two (eventually) from the tutorials.

3. If you need to train a particular skill, but don't have it yet, buy the skill book in your local station. Make sure you pay the lowest prices (under "sell orders"). Look at the duration of the sell order. If it's very much longer than 90 days (I think NPC sell orders are a year, but maybe half a year) it should be an NPC order, and usually lowest price, but if you find a better deal, go for it.

4. If you're not sure what to train at any given time, look at the skills section of your character sheet, and find the "certificates" tab. In there, find under "Engineering" the "Core Ship Operation" and "Core Weapon Fitting" certificates. Train up to level 1 at least, and then go on to levels 2 and 3 if you have nothing else you want to train. After these certiicates, you can train armor (Gallente or Amarr) or shields (Caldari or Minmatar) or gunnery or missiles or whatever you like. The certificates aren't perfect, but they give you a place to start.

5. You end up, after you do all the tutorials, with multiple ships. You can keep them, anticipating that you might lose one, or you can sell the ones you don't immediately need.

6. When you get an implant from a tutorial mission, install it immediately (unless you've already got that implant in your head, in which case sell it).

7. I suspect the OP's problem might be that she "processed" the ore. If by that she meant she turned it into minerals, that would explain the problem with the mission, which as I recall wants ore, not minerals. If the mission agent asks for minerals, then yeah, you have to reprocess the ore. Another possibility is that she started the mission, but didn't finish it before downtime, and then the mission would have reset and she wouldn't have been able to mine the rest of the ore she didn't get the day before. Fixing that requires a petition (F12 in-game). CCP are usually pretty quick to fix stuff like that.

1. is not true. Now a days (for the last 1.5 years or so) the rookie ship you get from the tutorial does NOT have the civilian equipment fitted.

True. Instead, you go get the ship, fly back to the station, and then they give you equipment and walk you through how to fit it.
