API and killboards question...

As I am figuring out the scope of the API tools, I have a question related to killboards.

Assume that I do not have active API, after deleting all of the API keys I may have given out to previous corps, if I now destroy a ship in-game and the loser of the fight does not post his loss mail on a killboard, why would my kill still appear on the killboards?

How does that happen and how could it would it become "API verified" if I do not even have an API to verify it against?

is there is a way to prevent that from happening, provided the other player did not upload his loss mail?

I believe kill boards update kills regardless of giving out API keys. Posting it helps it show up faster but it is not required.

Your kill shouldn't show unless your victim posted it through API. If your kill is showing then your victim has an API linked to the board, or you failed to delete your killboard API.

Rowells, or anyone else.. if I linked an API today would my past kills show up too?

Joffy Aulx-Gao for CSM. Fix links and OGB. Ban stabs from plexes. Fulfill karmic justice.

Yes. All kills. Google would have helped.
One can even pull deleted mails from the server.
Except for market transactions, nothing is ever lost.

How long backwards is that possible? We are missing some 10.000 kills from the early days (2003-2007).

I wasn't around in 2003.
I've heard that the killmails back then were literally mails,
so not actually registered on the servers.

There was a thread about this, actually, here on GD.

If you miss TEN THOUSAND KILLMAILS then you should rather petition ......

I was not around either but most of the ild kills could not be migrated to the "new" killboards. It is no big issue, I was just fascinated by the possibility of making them of there actually was a way.

There was a thread recently about old killmails and I think they only go back so far , again though, this is second hand information so someone would need to confirm that.

Edit: here it is.

Tragically December 2007 is the cutoff as that is when the new Combat Log system was added.

Keep in mind if either of the two is in a player corporation that corporation could have a corporation key registered on a killboard somewhere as well which would upload all kills & losses from that corporation's members.

Corp members can also view all kills and losses of other corp members within their corp interface and then copy a CREST URL which can be given to a killboard to upload that specific kill with api verification.

The Coreli Corporation is recruiting.
