Just gonna throw a crazy idea how the Rorqual could work as an defensive on grid booster that can support it's mining vessels and the combat ships helping it. Not gonna talk about exact numbers more of the role and then balancing can be made around this idea to make it viable.

Arrow When the [Industrial Core I] is active it will give the Rorqual a small Force field and anchor it in space making it unmovable. The force field will reject all ships that is not in fleet with the Rorqual. Everything inside the shield will not be able to target anything and ships outside can not target anything inside the shield. just like a POS force field. Only exception is the Rorqual itself that will still be able to target ships both outside and inside of it's shield. The force field HP will be the same HP as the Rorquals normal shield and can be repaired by its local [Capital Shield Booster I]. The [Industrial Core I] will use fuel when active and make the Rorqual immune to electronic warfare and remote effects just like the [Siege Module] for Dreads.

Arrow The [Capital Tractor Beam I] that can only be fitted to a Rorqual will be able to tractor sub capital ships in fleet to take them into rep range and inside the force field. This is the second part of the idea that will make the Rorqual able to defensively protect it's fleet members in a unique way. the current range of a [Capital Tractor Beam I] is 200km and 3000m/sec tractor velocity. Sounds reasonable but could be tweaked.

Balancing the Rorqual with these 2 unique roles in mind and with it's mining bonus will make it a very interesting ship. by pulling fleet members in need to it self inside the shield so they can reship and refit for combat. Giving the Rorqual a bubble immunity and/or electronic warfare immunity is also an option to make it harder to catch. This in combination with a [Mobile Cynosural Inhibitor ] can be a good tactic. Giving the shield a small reinforce timer with a strontium bay is definitely something that can be discussed.

Like the idea of having a ship able to morph into a low level POS for fleet support. I had posted something similar around a T2 Orca concept a while back here.

For the second idea, I do not think it is a good idea as it could be easily abused to make slow ships able to speed tank by being dragged at 3km/sec...

Oh cool. yeah that might be kinda OP. Webs should affect the speed to make up for it or maybe make the speed lower the higher mass the ship has, just like MWDs work. more mass lower tractor velocity.

The Rorqual also already has an awesome transformation that would work perfectly with a Force field.

I'd like to see a Black ops version of the Rorqual for supporting low sec prospect gangs: cheaper, smaller (and smaller on the inside), weaker and able to open and use black ops portals. Still able to boost and compress ore (and cloak when not doing those)

To be honest, just giving the current rorqual the ability to open black ops portals to make up for losing the uniqueness of ore compression would be a good start.

That is a pretty radical idea. My concern at the moment is that it would be too safe. Force field your fleet in, warp them off, jump the Rorqual out.

For me to get behind such an idea, there would have to be more risk involved. Perhaps the Rorqual cannot use it's jump drive, but can hold a shield up long enough for support to gather up to defend it.

like the first idea about the force field using the hp from the ships shields, would like better boosts in siege and out of siege thou

the order of the current boosts go

rorqual(no siege)
orca
rorqual(siege)

A Rorqual thread, holy ****... We haven't seen one of these for a long time.

Back in line buddy, there are already 20 other pages which you would know of if you simply used the search tool.
