I'm not sure if this already exists, but It would be nice to have multiple cargo bays inside stations to store equipment. Currently I just use Several ships to try and separate stuff, but it would be nice to have cargo bays that I can for example send all of the stuff I want to reprocess to. Or have another cargo bayu to store my exploration equipment.

What's wrong with containers?

The thing that sucks with containers is that it cannot see inside containers by using the search function. CCP should change the asset search function to a Grep command. That way it can see inside the containers with the search instead of having to right click + view contents.

Past that, containers already serves the OP's Function

Meh, properly labeled containers used in conjunction with jEve assets makes finding things pretty easy.

Can't remotely contract stuff within containers unless I contract the entire container.

First, containers aren't always available where you need them and they're a ***** to haul. Secondly, items in containers behave much differently than items outside of containers with regards to reprocessing, stacking, assets window, etc.

I don't see a reason why we should need a container to sort our own inventories.
