I did a search of the forum and was surprised to not find anyone else talking about this.

When I pull https://api.eveonline.com/eve/AllianceList.xml.aspx

I get the alliance list as expected, but followed by an error which is in HTML so I can't post it but the important part is
Quote:

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

[HttpException (0x80004005): Request timed out.]

I'm just getting the XML with no error so either it was a temp thing or something on your end maybe.

ARRRRG! We have been having a, comparatively, large number of calls time out. I have no idea why either and it REALLY annoys me. The zKillboard guys notice this the most as they consume the API the most, but basically seemingly random requests will time out. If you wait 5 minutes and try again it works fine. >:( I have been unable to find a way to reproduce this problem, it doesn't happen with specific data as if you retry a few minutes later and fetch the same data it works fine, and it has now been going on for a few weeks. The requests actually do end up completing, just sometimes they take 15 minutes and IIS has timed the connection out by that point.

/me rages

If anyone ends up finding any more information on this we would LOVE to hear from you.

That's actually great news - we are suffering the same issue and thought it was us :)

I do wish you'd post stuff like that in a known issues list though.

That would indeed be a good idea... something for the next few weeks along with some other big changes.
