Hey everyone.

This morning we deployed an update to SiSi that enables 3D previews of apparel items and ship skins in the New Eden Store. When you open up an offer in the store you will now see a 3D preview instead of the static offer image. Apparel items are by default previewed on a mannequin, but you can also pick any of your characters on the same account to try the item on by clicking their portrait in the top-left of the offer window (BONUS: when you preview items on your character you can now pan the camera vertically at will).

You may also want to check out the normal previews for items in the game since we made some significant behind-the-scenes changes to the preview system, so make sure the 3D preview of your favorite items still look pretty. Blink

Please have a look and tell us what you think Smile

Great idea, now just seed those missing 95% of item varieties into NES and this feature will not go to waste.
Thanks

Thanks for introducing this more helpful preview for those using the NES more frequently (than me) ♥

Now a probably obvious questions: will it be possible to save a preview state and add other apparel to it. To check how I would look after a complete NES shopping spree makeover?

This is probably not what you want to hear, because I wouldn't want to hear it if I was in your shoes, but....

Do you not think that your efforts in this regard are completely wasted while there is no WIS in the game?

CCP got burnt so badly by the negative reaction to Captain's Quarters that they seem (?) to have written off the idea of WIS completely. Sadly I think the reaction was moreso to do with the manner in which CQ was deployed, and forced upon us, rather than a total and everlasting abhorrence of the concept of WIS.

Right now, frankly, there is no reason to buy NEX items really. There is arguably some merit in buying ones that are visible on your character's face, but clothes? What's the point - no one will ever see them unless they manually "View Body" on you, and how often does that actually happen? You'd never know if someone did it on you anyway. In short - it's like a designer shop selling clothes that cease to exist once you walk outside the front door.

I'm loathe to say that Valve gets everything right, but in terms of their whole "clothing store" with Team Fortress 2 - they did. They instilled value and demand in their items because other players were forced to see them. Without knowing that other people will see you wearing this stuff, what is honestly the point of it? Now, I don't think WIS should be mandatory (unless you want Monument II: Revenge of the Community) but if you make WIS attractive enough then the "value", both in terms of justification for CCP creating the stuff in the first place, and the actual aspirational "buy it with Aurum" value will rise.

It seems a massive shame to me that CCP have arguably one of the best character creators in the business, and people working on clothing items that clearly a lot of work has gone into, and it's in the service of a game with ZERO interaction between avatars.

Honestly, if you guys can spare the time and it doesn't impact Eve, you should seriously consider easing the community into WIS by having a station somewhere where you can interact with other people, show off your NEX items, etc. Only then will it actually have any perceived value, and perversely the effort you're already spending creating these clothes will appear to be more productive than it currently is.

Hope you take the above as gently as it was intended, as no one likes to be undermined or told their work is of no consequence.

I've noticed that there's several projects, I mean players, that actually like the new apparel items introduced. Even though there's no WiS, there's still the Captain's Quarter. So at least for those players, such changes are welcome. Can't tell how many there are and also can't tell how much dev time those changes keeps them from improving other parts of the game (or which ones, anyway).

While you are at it. Can you please fix the broken center (of camera rotation) positions?
Just look at my awesome boots...

Edit: Is there a plan to add this to the default preview too? Kinda useless if it's limited to this horrible mess of a store.

Looking good.

I know I've been put off from buying anything, simply because there wasn't a way to preview - and at those, still high, prices risk aversion kicks in...

Now I'll only have the terrible variety to put me off - and for the record, ten identical tops of slightly different colour doesn't count as 'variety' (in my mind...)

This is a pretty good change and something I've been wishing CCP would do for quite some time.

Now is there any chance you could replicate this functionality into the ingame previews, for apparel on the market?

This might be relevant to the game if we could actually buy a decent selection of things from the Nex store.

It's a good feeling knowing that several players - out of thousands, will be able to benefit from this development. Roll

Btw I bought my shirt with isk :)

To be fair I don't think it would have been to hard for the developers to accomplish this task. Most of code would have already existed.

Once upon a time the Golem had a Raven hull and it looked good. Then it transformed into a plataduck. The end.

Does this mean we may see more ship skins?

If only CCP would ever understand that. Limited, exclusive and rare items are great, but only if you have a good selection of easily-accessible items too.
