I'm trying out inventing and I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading the originals. I know when I make the BPC from an upgraded BPO the upgrades carry over to the copy but does this carry over at all to the T2 BPC?

Nope.

The only reason to research a BPO for T2, is if the T1 item is required part for manufacturing the T2 item.

The only thing which affects the ME/TE of an invented BPC is the decryptor used (if any)
