Hi everyone!

Oceanus, in its infant stages, is now live on Singularity. As some of you have already discovered, we have some tasty new graphical effects for you!

  • New cloaking effect! This is currently a variable effect depending on your shader settings, but on High you will see an awesome, hex-based cloaking field spreading from a random point on your ship until you are fully engulfed, and invisible to third parties.

  • New wormhole effects! In addition to the classic nebulae visualisations that you could use to predict roughly in which region the wormhole exited, wormholes will now feature new visual clues as to the upper limit of mass that they can transmit as well as new distortion and ribbon effects.

  • A new LOD system! Instead of seeing ships pop-in at the appropriate detail level, they will be loaded with Low level of detail, then stream up to the appropriate level. This is very pertinent to the next point.

  • The Space Object Factory! This is a radical reworking of the way in which the client loads and handles objects in space, and is currently only in use for ships. More info to come in a Devblog soon.
  • What this means for you: If the Space Object Factory is working correctly, then you should see no aesthetic difference in any of the ships you fly. We have had to do some minor updates to certain ships, but this system will create uniformity in general across factions and significantly increase flexibility for adding anything that affects ships aesthetically.

If you see any green Apocalypses or red Brutixes then the system is not working correctly, so I'd like to ask people to be mindful of this and please submit a bug report.

The same goes for the other changes I've mentioned.

Hope you enjoy all this amazing new eye candy! We're really looking forwards to your feedback!

Sledge.

was the intent of the new cloaking to be a boost to gate camps?

    if so high five! :)

no longer will mwd and cloak be safe

edit: its odd... when i cloak on my client i can still see the ship even though its cloaked but when someone near me cloaks their ship disappears....

These are very nice. Looking forward to see more effects (for warp scrambled ships, target painted, being repped, etc.)

once cloaked will you still see the hex's ?
would be nice to see more of your own ships shape whilst cloaked .. it can help too know which way your ship is aligned too and just too see your ship in general would be nice

T3's need to be versatile so no rigs are necessary ... they should not have OP dps and tank

ABC's should be T2, remove drone assist, separate HAM's and Torps range, -3 HS for droneboats

Some ships on test server are transparent while docked. After undocking and redocking they are OK until you make active another ship.

What I want to know is ... do you still disappear from others' overviews the instant you engage your cloak?

Apparently the actual cloaking is delayed until the animation is complete. I'm sure this will be fixed before the change goes live.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

How will the "space object factory" feature, particularly the "streaming" aspect, interact with high lag/tidi conditions? Do you anticipate that it will reduce the lag/hiccup when entering an overloaded grid?

    PS edit:
Excellent work on the new effects, the art team always knocks it out of the park!

Posting from another thread, but it should be here:

Also, I have to agree the sudden disappearance at the end is kind of jarring. If there's a way to add in a fade to nothing, that would move the power level from awesome to EPIC.

the new cloak effect looks some kind of weird. Its like a wobbling thingy in space.
I would remove the wobble wobble effect and the light dispersion on edges and planes are jumping around like rubber balls.

Would assume tidi shouldn't have an effect on it because rendering on the client rather than on the server.

just tested it on sisi and it looks awesome ;) gj!

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

The new cloaking effect looks totally sweet

but judging from the videos, I think the animation could be a little bit faster

I haven't gotten around to the soul-crushing task of trying to find a wormhole on SiSi yet.

Testing the cloak animation is much lower-hanging fruit and as such has indeed been done.

I like it, but I have two things I want to suggest, too:

Speed up the animation. It's an amazing animation and it's what cloaking probably should have been all this time, but it should be about 20% faster. No, I'm not making a pony joke.

The second thing: Having tried out the various shader quality settings, I see how the cloak effect works. The ship fades to wireframe with a swirly white effect going around which (at high shaders) is diffused through the hexagonal "bubbles".

My second suggestion is that you cut the brightness of the white swirly bit by about half. With that, your ship (and the effect) should still be clearly visible to you (moreso than now, even) without the brightness being distracting or jarring or feeling totally out-of-place with the idea of being cloaked and invisible.

One last thing: I can confirm the appearance someone mentioned before of what seem like "glitches" in the high-shader cloak effect; bands will suddenly pop up spanning the entire length/width of the ship model (they stay perfectly horizontal irrespective of the angle I look at the ship from) and are full of rainbow hues that look completely out-of-place.
