Phantasm and it's tracking bonus

So yesterday I had the pleasure to fly a phantasm, without looking at the graphs first. While I still got a nice kill, I was somewhat disappointed with performance of my phantasm. Afterburner bonus is surely nice, no one can hit me, weeeee. But it's tracking bonus is lackluster, even with a tracking computer, at optimal range even if target is not moving I will only do less than half dps. Basically you can either move fast, or hit well, not both.

Anyone else feel that it would be better if it got higher tracking bonus, to offset the afterburner bonus?

Maybe someone got a decent fit that got it covered too?

Lasers have naturally **** tracking, so orbiting and generally engaging at close range is not the best strategy, try using your AB bonus to hold yourself at the edge or out of scram range, or long point kiting entirely depending on your fit.

Yeah i was orbiting at the far edge of scram range, it still was rather lacking in anything but grazing hits. Best range is ~10km. Even then without tracking computers, or enhancers or rigs, it is only like 1/3rd of max dps.

At first it looked like a good idea, nearly unkillable ship. But now i think I will put more gank into it. Or more exactly more tracking. To do that i need tracking rig, tracking computer and tracking enhancer, just to get it to near max dps.

Well those boosters, saved my ship, so I am not that sure about them. I was going for max survivability. I didn't want to have shield extenders, because I am using halo implants.

And yes I have amarr cruiser to 5.

This. If you are going to be in close drop an ASB or the TD for a tracking computer. Ideally, use scotch and a long point where tracking will be better.

i think alot of ppl have the wrong idea on the usefulness of orbiting your enemy...

that said a HP phantasm have a better tracking than a 425AC cynabal at any range with both faction and T2 ammo, much better range and the ability to switch ammo in a second
