Courier Contracts?

Ok so I'm little confused I've not been playing long but I thought I'd take a break from running Distribution agent missions and give a player contract a try. I read before I went ahead with it to try and beware of over priced collateral's but I'm not sure what happened. Here's the issue and any help will be useful:

I accepted a contract to transport some goods from Jita to Unpas, paying 1.5mil ISK with a 20mil ISK collateral, upon accepting the contract at the Caldari Navy Assembly Plant in Jita I received in my hanger 40000 heavy, tech 2 missiles of two damage types and a set of plastic wrap. I dragged all items into my cargo hold of my badger and transported them to the destination. However I am unable to complete the contract, it states that the plastic wrap is not associated with any contractor nor does it have the capacity to hold the contents of the missiles (1200m3 vs the 1000m3 the wrap can hold). I evemailed the contractor with the issue, but there is only 23 hours left on the contract time and I'm wondering if I just fell for a ruse of my 20mil.

Any help or suggestions anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What was your method of finding this contract?

All I can think of is that you somehow accept an item exchange instead of a courier. I say file a support ticket with CCP on that.

Well I searched courier contracts under the section on the contracts page, specifically using the courier tab, looked at the end reward and relatively affordable fee, or at least I thought. Besides that the only thing I can think of is either I got duped or the contractor forgot to package their goods.

Is it possible that the missiles were originally inside the wrap and you removed them when moving them to you ship's cargo thereby breaking the contract? It is possible to steal from courier packages, which is why it is recommended to always use a larger collateral than the value of the goods. As the hauler, you get to decide whether to move the package intact or break it open and take the goods, nulling the contract.

If you are sure you received them outside the wrap then it sounds like a bug or you somehow managed to accept a "fake courier" item exchange contract. Looking in your contract history for the contract details might help.

I thought you are give a prompt to whether to "break open the package", as far as I know I never broke open said package as I stil have the option to break the seal. What is a "fake courier" item exchange contract?

That's not possible as the wrapping is done automatically. The contractor doesn't have to do anything there.

Ok well maybe I got duped, maybe I accidentally somehow broke the package, there's only 15hours left on the contract and no reply yet from the contractor. So maybe I'll cut my losses sell the missiles and an implant I'm unable to use and be about back where I was ISK wise, ie. 20mil.

Yeah it sounds like you have opened the contract parcel (which means you fail the contract).

You should have been given a warning first (you can look inside the parcel without problems, but opening it causes the contract to fail).

I actually do this deliberately sometimes - I often look for courier contracts with 1 million or less collateral, and treat them as a lucky dip, intentionally failing the contract to see if I can find items worth much more than 1 million. It's like a lottery.

On the plus side, you've learned a cheap lesson here - you can probably resell those missiles for most of the 20m back.

If you double click the package you can look inside, if the package is empty then you've accidentally repackaged/broken it and then re-assembled it.

Though its possible to re-assemble the wrapping there is no way of putting the items back in so you will be unable to complete the courier contract.

Once you accept a courier contract, you will just see a package in the Items bay at the pickup station, not all of the contents in that package. (unless u double-click to open it)....THAT is what you drag over to your cargo hold.

Its possible you did not drag over all the items over to your ship, and even if you did I don't think it will be considered a valid delivery unless you also have the "plastic wrap" (which is always shown on ganks)

You must of looked inside and dragged some/all of the items over.

Your contract will not FAIL unless you fail it or if the issuer fails it AFTER the deadline. You can actually still deliver an overdue contract successfully, up until the issuer fails it. So you really do have more time to get a hold of the issuer, and if he is ok with it he may allow you time to "fix it", or you 2 can work something out.

I remember something similar happening to me a few years ago when I was a "noob" at hauling, and the issuer and I worked it out.

great to see you are trying out hauling, feel free to contact me if you wish, I've made billions hauling :) Once you get up there into the freighter stage you will also.

also, stop by the Haulers Channel, great place tp pick up contracts and get tips/advice.
