Umm... so skills didn't train while the server was down???? great....

Don't worry, skill training does not require the server to be up and running. Some of us got affected because the respective skill queues ran dry, however.

People will tell you "always keep a long skill at the end of your queue", which is a smart move, but the queue can obviously still run empty. One of my toons was approaching the end of Armored Warfare Specialist V, for example. Not everybody has the opportunity to always fill up the queue in the given 24 hour window of opportunity, so please don't bash people who ran out of skills and luck at the exact same time as TQ was unreachable.

Crying into one's beer is a time honored tradition almost everywhere. Smile Also, I find a little weeping for lost skill points significantly less annoying than some of the outbursts of rage sometimes seen in the EVE forums. Still, as you wrote, "excrement happens" (*) sums things up nicely.

(*) The forum actually censored the word "s-h-i-t"? How stupid is that? Roll

You NSA guys should hire a Change Manager Lol

No need for a backdoor when most data transfered isn't encrypted anyways.

Guess being trust into RL for too long causes some people to go into VIP mode.

Very Irate Pilots ;)

RL isn't so bad, although I did realize I have more stubble than my avatar.

I only lost a bit of SP, but the forums were down here. All day! Was forced to look at reddit and crapheap, which was... disgusting
Can I not just have a Fedo as compensation? Or CCP Guard? Not fussy.
I don't think this is an unreasonable request. I'm a loyal customer!

I can see that there are many players online right now, but i am unable to connect here in Australia. anyone else with the same problem still?

( it seem there was a windows update that stopped me from logging on. once that was installed , everything worked fine. )

The Internet kind of broke today when we went past 512k routes and many older routers crash and burned or started route flapping.

CCP I DEMAND AN SP REIMBURSEMENT EVEN THOUGH I HAD A LONG SKILL QUEUE AT THAT TIME AND WASN'T EVEN LOGGED IN AT ALL SO I WASN'T EVEN AFFECTED BY IT ONE BIT! BUT STILL I DEMAND SOMETHING BECAUSE "ENTITLEMENT".

But seriously what happened to the EVE servers? I couldn't even get into the forums for some reason. So I went to sleep and found this 33 page thread (Not reading all of it).

It's going to be a long few weeks until even the majority of networks get fixed

No its not.

You can easily work around the issue on a temporary basis by dropping some of the routes you never express forward.

That will buy you some time - at least 6 months, maybe more. For a small company that's probably good for a year+ before things start looking a bit dodgy.

The downside is you potentially have to intervene on every BGP FIB update which is the antithesis of an autonomous system (AS).

The people who screwed up know who they are & to those companies I'd say this :

Pay peanuts, get monkeys - especially in London.

I didn't read all gazillion pages - just caught a few rage comments and thought I'd throw in my two cents.

While it may not have been CCP's fault directly - customers should still get any downtime back. After all this is a game where you pay for time. So if time is lost or taken away it should be refunded.

Take amazon prime - if playback glitches they refund my money (without me even asking) because I didn't get the exact experience I paid for. If you order a pair of shoes online and pay for two-day shipping but they show up in 5 days you don't get money back from the shipping company - you get it back from the company who sold the shoes.

So yes - this wasn't CCP's fault directly and it is only a game so its not worth getting all ragey over not getting to play for a few hours but good customer service says that players should get the time tacked back onto the end of their subscription expiration at the very least.

To say the situation is unavoidable would be inaccurate - if a redundant data center was setup in another location it might not be as painful for all the players. Sure maybe some folks would have been in the dark but not everybody. I recognize that redundancy isn't trivial to implement but from a customer service standpoint it couldn't hurt.

Feel free to complain to the company or companies who bungled the Internet connection to CCP servers. If the problem is caused by CCP (the multitude of cockups with the Crius expansion comes to mind for some reason) asking something in return from CCP is fine by me. However, if the problem is not within CCP's sphere of influence, asking to "get any downtime back" reminds me of people calling the police or fire department because Facebook is down, as has happened again recently.
