Graphics card failing... help please

I am not certain if this is the right forum. Please move if not.

I believe my graphics card is dying. I am now having issues keeping my two monitors with the correct colour settings (the colours are washing out). I have an intel duo core processor and currently a geforce gtx 460 se (four year old machine). In the interest of compatibility with the motherboard (and price) I want to upgrade to the next graphics card. I believe this would be the GeForce GTX 650 Ti.

Does this course of action make sense and is it correct?

Thanks guys.

OK, I have confirmed that is a graphics card I can use. I suppose the question now is is it actually a graphics card issue? I have troubleshot the cabling to confirm if the monitors are the issue. I have ensured all connections are tight and the graphics card is properly seated and clean.

Everything else about the computer is fine.

Any further ideas?

Thanks

Have you updated the drivers? (sorry, had to ask) Also, you might consider downloading an app to check the core temp of your GPU to see if it's overheating. Other than that it might be helpful to post more details of the problem you're having, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by the colors washing out.

Thanks for responding.

The card is no longer supported. The drivers are the most recent.
The GPU temp is good.

It is strange, I was in the middle of a session when the computer monitor's colours became very pale and off (spec?). My main monitor (a Sanyo TV) remained normal. I checked all cables. I turned on and off the monitor and rebooted the computer. No joy. I switched the cables to see what effect on the Sanyo. It's colours become very pale and off. I set the computer monitor to factor resets anyway to see if that made any difference. It did not.

Now both monitors are suffer the same effect. I am able to do a combination of monitor and NVidia colour control but its near impossible to get the computer monitor to display normal colour. The Sanyo is close but it is set at extreme setting with no wiggle room.

I am making the assumption it is the graphics card. No certain what else it could be.

That is very strange and I'm not completely sure what it is, but since you've tested it on multiple monitors I'm inclined to think it's the graphics card. If it's an old card and no longer supported it would be a good bet to upgrade to something newer. Even if it doesn't turn out to be the graphics card, you're still set with the upgrade that is probably something you'll have to get soon anyways.
