Which Caldari frigate for mission running? Any good Navy Hookbill fit?

Hey there,

Been doing some level 1 security missions in a Corax, so far so good, but some of the missions require a frigate. I've been thinking about getting a Caldari Navy Hookbill for those missions. First question is, would a Kestrel be better, seeing as it has an extra high slot and is a lot cheaper?

And secondly, if I should go for the Navy Hookbill, then can someone recommend a good mission grinding fit?

Thanks :)

Well I've managed to come up with this. Should allow me to kite at 39km and do some damage. Unfortunately my engineering skills aren't at max yet so I've had to use some power grid boosting stuff. Let me know what you guys think and how you would change this.

MID

Balmer Series Tracking Disruptor I

Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction
Eutectic Capacitor Charge Array (not sure if I need this yet, waiting on tracking disruptor skill to train so i can turn them on)

LOW
Internal Force Field Array I
Micro Auxiliary Power Core I

RIGS
Small Ancillary Current Router I
Small Hydraulic Bay Thrusters I
Small Rocket Fuel Cache Partition I

To the best of my knowledge tracking disruption doesn't work against NPC targets.

Level 1 missions are ridiculously easy... A Navy Hookbill would be a waste of ISK IMO. I love the Kestrel though.

Don't waste too much ISK on stuff when you're new. The PLEX to ISK trap is all to easy to fall for as a new player but can leave a nasty impression when it goes bad.

You'll be out of level 1s pretty quick so I wouldn't be too concerned with the perfect fit. For PvE active tanking seems to be preferred so just slap a meta 4 tank (obviously work on getting t2 asap) on a Kestrel if you like missiles or a Merlin if you like hybrids and pew pew.

edit: oh wow do NOT waste mids on tracking disruptors :) You'll notice Caldari ships have a good amount of mids. This is because shield tanking mods go there as opposed to Gallente who usually get more lows (where armor tanking mods go.)

http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Kestrel

for PvE it is pretty safe to use EvE Universitys fittings. Eventually you will change out your resist modules for each mission depending on the damage type which you can look up at EvE Survival (just google that I think.)

One last thing, I wouldn't fly faction ships around when you can't even put a t2 tank on. It really is overkill and not necessary to run missions. Wait til level 4s to bling. Oh and since you are new, always fit a Damage Control in one of your lows :)

thx for the replies guys. I have tons of mils saved from mining now (almost maxed out mining) and the way I see it I can keep the ship for later either way so it's not really going to waste even if it is expensive.

I won't go for the tracking disruptors if they're not useful and the Internal Force Field Array is a better version of the Damage Control I so that's already on there :)

Get hull upgrades 4. Apart from a few rare occations, EVERY ship i fly has a T2 damage control....

It is invaluable as emergency buffer while learning to do combat focused things for PVE and gives you lots more EHP to chew threw and catch reps, break tackle or reduce incoming DPS in PVP.

The best mission runner frigate for level 1, 2 and some 3's is the

Worm

It's drone bonus is amazing, but it's sort of pricey.

You've had L1 missions not allow your destroyer in them?

Did you try the gate or just read it?

Last I had seen destroyers were allowed in all L1's.

Destroyers for lvl 1 missions are the best. Chose your dessy rails or missiles and go with it :)

Yep, the acceleration gate didn't let me through, required a frigate. I do all missions in a Corax though, so far that was the only one that required a frigate.

I haven't had a Lvl 1 that a Kestrel didn't stomp all over.

It's only water, in a stranger's tear. Looks are deceptive, but distinctions are clear. A foreign body and foreign mind; never welcome in the land of the blind.

Kestrel is an awesome ship for level 1's. Hookbill is pretty much overkill for them, good for level 2's though. If you've got the skills for it a Hawk can merrily solo most level 3's... it's not super fast, but as far as mission running goes it's actually kind of fun.
Some level 4's may be doable with the Hawk as well, but you'll have to be very picky as there are some tanks it simply cannot break.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.
