We have seen that a lot of development time is spend on getting rid of old code. How much of the old code is left by now?

I thought this was going to be about your dog...Old Code...the high-tech hound.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

About 18%

As your average EVE player I'm totally up to speed on this.

Most code is legacy as soon as it's released. Except code from legendary programmers, but I don't know if CCP has those.

Came expecting a conversation about members of the CODE/New Order who have been members for a long time, or who are a bit old in the real world.

Left unhappy and totally unfulfilled.

A general rule of thumb seems to be if a patch breaks something then they've probably been changing old code.

Cirius? Isn't it some drug for running nose? I hope that thread is in Out Of Pod subforums otherwise Fury Bot will be angry when he comes back.

Old code is the code you did not write yourself or you did write yourself but not today. So I would say ~99% left and it is not getting better

How can the code be old when they are still active and shooting stuff? What?

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

It's early, and I can't spell at the best of times.

Best coding is typing with you face then knuckle rolling across the keyboard. If you are really good you end up with working code.

Corporation member management, pos access/security management - that is the part that lets you think about suicide.
And from the looks of it it has barely been touched - new deployables using a new code.
So it will get replaced with 1 (mis)step at a time. Wish the distances in space weren't so huge Sad

What about the market source? That must be old as well.

Old code becomes old when:
1) I forget how it works
2) It breaks
3) Someone else wrote it and I want to change it

There's a reason we call it Spaghetti Code Online.

EVE is over a decade old and waaaaaaaaaay back in the day a few people didn't bother to properly document their ****. So that means that on test builds, CCP has to very carefully re-read and recode things so that the POS code does not become skynet and kill us all.

They drilled into us the importance of documenting in your code when I took a course in C++ with Object Oriented Programming. On a Sun Sparc machine.
