Faction Warfare Question

Been playing for a couple of months, decided to join faction warfare to make isk and pvp at same time!
I have my own corp (to get away from npc corp chat ) and enlisted with caldari militia, turns out it's not automatic, but after a few hours my profile showed I was in caldari militia, so off I went to capture complexes and search for pvp.

Now I couldn't find any thread about this but I can't capture any complex, whether it's in a friendly or enemy system, orbiting around it at 5km and it will stay contested the entire time, I have went to 20 systems and entered the complex and it's still the same, i'm not sure if this is a bug or i'm doing something wrong because I've read all threads relating to faction warfare, defensive or offensive plexing isn't working, I get rid of any opposing npc ship and still the timer won't run.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

If you're offensive plexing (Attacking a Gallente/Minmatar system), you have to first pop the NPC guarding the site.

Also, might be you're still not completely in the militia. I believe militia changes get finalized each downtime.
