As a career industrialist, I agree that mining is boring as ****. I moved to 0.5 space not only for the higher end ore but also the supposedly harder rats. Imagine my surprise when I get jumped by two Serpentis Frigates. How scary.

My idea is to change belt rats to be harder based on security status.

1.0 - 0.9: Rats spawn in Rookie Ships, occasional high tier frigate.
0.8 - 0.7: Rats spawn in high tier frigates, occasional dessie.
0.6 - 0.5: Frigates, destroyers, occasional cruiser.
0.4 - 0.0: Keep doing what you are doing with the Battleships.

The more powerful ships would add more difficulty to mining by forcing miners to tank their ships and even maneuver.

Another problem with this, however, is a large mining fleet ROFL-Stomping the two puny frigates as they spawn. Scale more powerful rat spawns as the number of ships in the belt increases.

Ex. 20 mining barges and 1-2 Orcas in belt: 5 frigs, 2 dessies, and a cruiser. OR 1 Battleship and a few supporting frigates.

Any suggested changes will be considered, I have also cleared out some space for the resident trolls if necessary.

The real issue with belt spawns is that CODE and Goons are far more effective for the whole killing thing.

It is unreasonable to tank a Retriever or Covetor. The one mid slot has to be occupied by a survey scanner, else you'll be overcycling way too much. If you take a MLU out of your low slots you'll be greatly damaging your yield.

0.5 rats aren't there to be an intimidating threat, likely just to encourage barge use in those systems or something along those lines.

With somewhat decent drone skills, the tanky barge can deal with 2 battleship if you are patient. Making the spawn bigger only mean more bounty for the miner. You have to be at the keyboard to add a real threat and then, it's buisness as ususal...

I agree belt rats need more ewar to make them more challenging... That's what the OP wanted right? Guessing he didn't try to mine during an incursion either.

I do LoSec mine when I need the minerals found in Jaspet.
I have never seen any CODE in my system.
If you are worried about the rat bounties, they can be nerfed in belts, I just want mining to be more difficult than Ctrl + Click & F1 F2. Also, I am a solo miner, the fleet I talked about was the fleet I find whenever I go to get some ice.

You can tank belt rats in deep null easily, why on earth do you think a couple of highsec frigs or a single cruiser would worry anyone?

I would like to see one BS rat, that forces miners to fight together agains it - or somethink like this.

I would definitely like to see rare powerful rat spawns in highsec belts. I would not give them warp interdiction of any form.

Nothing wrong with a Retriever having to warp out in a hurry from a battleship that outmatches it, then either return in a combat ship or find a different belt.

It would reduce AFK mining and botting.
