Lots Of Ships Passing Thru; How Do I Find Out Where They're Going?

In my quiet little plodding way I was playing my version of EVE when I noted a massive movement of ships passing through my normally quiet little .06 system. I recognized a few names from the lo-sec system next door ( I have my own little pet name for these guys, but it's not nice so I'll keep it to myself) but they were, it seemed, a small part of something bigger. Nobody was shooting at anybody, they were all passing through but for some reason they had all made a detour through station space.

Curious, but not stupid, I did not follow them, as I figured wherever they were going someone was about to get shot at and Covetors don't hold up that well under heavy fire.

Is there a place somewhere online that talks about major ship movements/fights, that sort of thing? I'm not talking about the big thousand ship dust up that happens occasionally, but where twenty/thirty or so ships mix it up on a Saturday night?

Just curious (Nosy?).

Your only chances are to follow them, join their corp, know someone in their corp, or search for killmails later with some of their names. Corps are typically very closely guarded about their movements and operations, and understandably so.

The map will show large fights in progress about 15 minutes after they begin if you set it to show "Active pilots in Space, Kills in last hour, Pod kills in last hour, jumps in last hour"

Other than that its best to just task a bomber or an interceptor to follow the fleet and keep tabs on them, I personally prefer the bomber because that gives me flexibility to drop in a Bomber wing for mayhem once the fight begins with a covert cyno. But the interceptor is much faster and wont be held up by bubblers on the gates

Just ask them. Eve players, as a rule, are very social and friendly.

I'll wager a dime to a donut you just saw an EVE University field trip pass by. A good way to find out where they went is, go to school. Join EVE University for a spell. Learn the game a tad deeper. Come out a bright shining penny.
Okay, maybe not that.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

If it was a large enough gang and you're in a quiet enough area, they may light up a path on the "jumps in the last hour" map.

Who put the goat in there?

I should've thought about that, the map, yeah, that would work. But I also like the idea of a ship fitted just for following groups or even single ships of interest; I betcha that Astero I've been looking at would do the job. From what I can see you can run fast even when cloaked, a germ of an idea has sprouted. OK, folks, thanks for all the come-backs, even the ones I don't agree with.

Could be anything really. What the OP describes sounds exactly like a move we pulled this friday.

We had just RF'd some structures but the system became too hot for our simple bash fleet, so we had to extract after a while. Lowsec outgates were camped and combat probes went up. We made the call to move through hisec to sit out said timers docked, and be on our way home using an alternative route. Some members had died at that point, we were in need of reshipping and we did what we came for. Turned into a big fight yesterday, kudos to our targets for showing up in such force.

I too prefer the bomber to follow targets around. Being able to cloak on-grid with them is nice, because then you can use camera tracking to see where individuals are going.
