i am not what you would call tech savvy. i wish i were. i'm just ignorant, not idiotic.

this is more a request for help, but if solved this thread may prove invaluable to others trying to achieve the same. here goes:

i want to join a site's mailing list, but it tells me i need to Trust the site. this gives away my location by sending them a header or something—not sure about the technical details here. at first i thought i could make another character on my account and Trust the site that way, and just check the second character's EVE Mail occasionally. however, it turns out the browser is not only shared between characters on an account, but also across separate accounts. this leads me to believe the Trust extends to all instances occurring from the same install. am i assuming correctly that when i Trust a site as one character it will tell them the current location of the character i currently have logged in, not just the character i was logged in as when i gave that site Trust?

i don't have a second computer to install EVE on. that seems like the easiest solution, however it's unavailable to me.

i tried to join the mailing list using a non-Eve mail account, but the site says i must use EVE Mail.

the only other option i can think of is to modify the information sent to the site i want to Trust to always say i'm in such-and-such location regardless of where i really am. how can i do that?

if that can't be done. what else can i do to join this mailing list without giving away my location?

all help is appreciated. feel free to be technical. i'll just ask more questions until i understand. thanks! o/

In the options menu of the in-game browser you can remove any website from your list of trusted sites. You could always just make sure the site is added in that list on your alt and not on your main.

Trust works per eve installation though not per character.

The best way to do it; Give the site trust, join the mailing list, remove trust through the browser options. Once youre in the mailing list you likely dont need to visit the site again and theres no way for the owner to see you've removed trust.

Also keep in mind that the headers are on sent when you visit their website, so even if you leave trust on if you simply never visit their site again because you're already in the mailing list they will not be able to see your info anyway.

The Coreli Corporation is recruiting.
