Jeezus, all these people and none of you know how sell orders work? You can sell one of two ways: simple and advanced. This is controlled by a drop down box on the sell window. Advanced lets you set your own price and puts up an outstanding sell order (which may be immediately filled if there's a matching outstanding buy order). This requires you to pay a broker's fee up front. Simple immediately sells to the best available outstanding buy order (and thus doesn't let you set the price--it's dictated by the buy order) and does *not* charge a broker's fee. You can place any simple sell order with no ISK whatsoever in your wallet (I have personally tested this to confirm it). There is a sales tax in both cases but it is not charged until the sale completes and is taken out of the sales proceeds. It does not require ISK in the seller's wallet.

Buy orders can likewise be simple or advanced, incidentally. Remember, if you're buy/selling against existing outstanding orders, use simple and save yourself the broker's fee...

It does, I had it couple of weeks ago when selling stuff.

Had less then 15 mil in my own personal wallet so couldn't sell 2 PLEX I got from a friend (all my ISK in corp wallet and I forgot to tick the "use corp wallet" box)

And I was just selling to buy orders

It's not enough to be selling to buy orders. You have to be using the Simple interface. If you use the Advanced interface--if you can enter a price manually--you're on the hook for the broker's charges, which have to be paid up front, even if you immediately sell to a buy order. I have tested this, and successfully sold items via Simple with 0 ISK in my wallet.

Additional note: apparently you can also get the broker's fee to go away in Advanced if you set your order duration to "Immediate". This is not personally tested by me, but it sounds reasonable.

I get it. Next time I need to extend my Pilot license I buy ingame time instead of the plex. Then I'll keep the plex for next month.

in game = PLEX

You want a recurring subscription (which you can cancel straight after that so it doesn't auto renews).

a few points:
do NOT follow online tutorials that say you need to get into bigger ships. you will regret it. as they say in EVE, never fly what you cant afford to lose. and if you need to sell PLEX for that ship, pretty soon you will need to sell another one to replace it. chances your support skills arent even there yet to fly bigger ship. battleship lvl 1 skill is the easiest part to get.
never leave the station with that PLEX in your cargo hold.
now on topic:
I think it was already mentioned that you pay the sales tax only AFTER you sell it. you only need to pay a broker fee upon setting up the sale order.
you should look into a sales contract. the fee is only 10000 ISK if you create your own, or nothing if you find a contract offering money for your PLEX. however read up on it and be very careful - contract scams are abundant in Jita. or should I say count your zeroes very carefully? :)

this is true. you dont even need to actually sell it, just set to immediate and see broker fee go away.

Most of you haven't told him the best method to sell stuff which is by private contract which only costs a paltry 10,000 ISK.
(I'm really surprised CCP haven't raised that tax yet..........oops.)

Use a relevant trade channel or the local channel in a trade hub to advertise & arrange a buyer. Not at Jita as the local channel there is appalling and unusable. I would say use one of the trading mailing lists as well but they deal in bulk items only really.

Never use open trade window to trade except with in-game friends you really trust. Best to have notably bad people like 'Yummy Yummy Yummy' on block as well. People like her only do trade window scams and other variants of scams to gain their ISK.

EU and UK subscriptions are more expensive than 2-packs of PLEX from a US retailer.

Do your research before posting...GTC system was abandoned by CCP and everything except recurring payment defaults to receiving a PLEX for the redeeming system now.

In the recurring case you are right that it is somewhat cheaper than the PLEX sales at CCP, but this is also true for the new PACs or PLEX activation codes as they word it now.

The Only advice i can offer at this point is dont go nuts on stocking your wallet like that early on, take your time and train right, because its when you have too much ISK and not enough Sense / Skill SP that you see stupidly expensive ships die to smaller more well trained ships. Having that kind of ISK encourages you to buy expensive faction mods that barely out do the T2 in most cases, hence the 5b fully faction fit battleships that die 4 days into the game.
