With the Numerous Server improvements over the years that have occurred, how we can have larger and larger amounts of players in systems for fights, I think it's time to reintroduce the Mines to eve. With a few changes to the old Mine setups like Making them Expire after X amount of time and limits to how close they can be to each other I think this would be an interesting strategic weapon to bring back to EVE.

Have them as unforgiving as Bombs and Smartbombs with high DPS and maybe a more friendly version thats Lower DPS but won't trigger on Blues. Eitherway I think bringing back Mines would be interesting Especially in bottleneck systems in null and Lowsec systems.

Mines are to indiscriminate. i would like to see them come in as a special type of drone. that you can control to suicide into ships.

I would love to see mines come back but keep them off gates WHs and stations like smart bombs and add in E-war variations nuets and maybe temporary sensor damps however all mines should be triggered by blues as well there isn't a weapon in game that ignors blues so don't start now oc limit them to 0.0 and lower

Fully Agree with keeping them out of Empire space. Friend or Foe missiles do exist in the game. The Concept I am more thinking of if a blue wanders to close it would not go off. I am not saying remove the AOE effect from hitting the Blue if the mine does go Boom. This is the future afterall and not limited to Terran antique mines. But in the end if this ever does get put back in, that decision is the masses or at least the devs :P

Aren't mines something like a deconstructive element to the game ? I mean I like the concept thinking small and direct, but doesn't it just lead to abuse and exploits with big blocks or organizations digging in systems and privatizing everything more then it already is ? 50 bubbles on a gate .. which solo pilot or small gang does still bother to roam there - then add mines and the game comes to a standstill.

Just imagine every gate camped with a dozen and more bubbles and 30 SB waiting with bombs already on the way, which is what a mine concept might bring.

Until a reasonable concept comes up that works in favor of the game and not against it and not just for the LoLs, I'll say 'No' to mines.

Can't say I'm in favour of deploy and forget weapons systems.

Server load aside there are to many things in this game that can just be left to run without a player actually doing anything and adding more to that list doesn't strike me as a good idea, especially combat related items.

Before anyone says it I know POSes are automated but they are a significant investment in time and ISK rather than a fairly cheap deployable munition situated around a drag bubble or on a gate.

if i remember rightly there use to be proximity mines in eve once upon a time however it lead to all sorts of issues with concord pilots would set up there mines in null go high sec to buy a new skill book kill miners whatever and suddenly concord turns up and kills them why because some one in null just activated the mine in null sec but the owner of said mine is in high sec.

it is entirely possible i dreamed this up while high/drunk

I would love mines. Put some in the bubbles around my POS in WH space, wait for unsuspecting player to warp to that bubble, watch the explosion. And since pods move so slow I could also get that to I imagine.

yeah... that was back in 04 lol. But EVE used to have mines but due to being new it had alot of server issues, back then once you deployed they were deployed... like wrecks back in the day.. nothing despawned after X amount of time. I'm more of thinking have them time out like Wrecks. Player Deploys Mines after X amount of time They either just randomly Splode or get removed from the field by the server. This system is already inplace with Jetcans, wrecks, MTU's have a timer of 2 days I believe. Some anchorable items I believe are 30 days outside of a pos shield. I am more thinking have it at the same time frame of an MTU or even on the short end of jetcans. Mines get Deployed Strategically before an area is slated to get hot. Maybe an area coming out of Reinforce etc. Strategic use, cost wise also. They will make a big enough difference used on the field, But not cheap enough that people just spam them all over the place.

Also Concord has so bar been WAY better under control compared to back in the day. I haven't even seen them wander into wormholes in a long long time lol.

you could also make a min laying mobile structure that can be put in space and deploys a screen of mines. and limit so only so many can be on grid at a time.

I still have a anaconda mine blueprint.
laying a minefild would be tedious, unless it came with presets like probe scanning does. also matter of ownership. could have standard layers where doing so in high sec might get you shot, to covert ops layers for the sneaks

People would cry too much. As if we don't already hear enough whining from nullsec bears. They would **** bricks.

Now in W-Space, mines could work. As long as they were visible to corp, fleet and alliance.

it would make small gang roaming even less desiderable, a gate heavily bubbled + mined would be impenetrable by anything but a big blob (which would be gated in by their titans so wouldnt even bother to touch it)

I thought they removed the Anaconda BP's back in '12?

no bombs are targeted and mines could also be set up to have a much smaller radios say 5k instead of 15k

Bombs are not targeted. They are completely indiscriminate and untargeted. They only go 15km in whatever direction you happen to be pointing when you launch it.

Also, mines were removed because they made the hamsters go into cardiac arrest. True, the hamsters are more physically fit than in previous years. But you can only expect so much from the little rodents.
