Which drones to use against enemy drones?

I would like someone to confirm or correct my understanding: fighter drones are about the size of a frigate, light drones are the optimal choice for killing frigates, therefore light drones should be used to kill light , medium, heavy drones and fighters. What about sentries?

sentries are also about that same size, but don't move much. I still suggest lights.

frankly none because to kill 5 drones you need to target those 5 drones first, you're better off in killing their owner first and scooping up those drones later.

edit: to kill drones fit a smart bomb.

It's situational, there's no generic answer.
It depends on the distance at which the ennemy drones are, their size, their speed, your targeting speed... then you can decide which weapon to use against them.
For example I use my sentries against big slow drones far away, but against small closing drones it's useless, i must use some light drones or turrets with a good tracking speed instead.
Even on a drone boat, it's always a good thing to mount a few small turrets if you have some free high slots.

Don't fit a smart bomb in high sec, it will end in a hilarious explosion.

Only ignore one or two t1 light drones , anymore than that they're well worth killing.
always kill the drones, warrior 2's work well for this.

A properly skilled Ishkur can hold a full flight of Hobgoblin II and another flight of Warrior II light drones. Whether or not you care enough to engage enemy drones, and how you can best deal with them, depends on what part of space you're in, what you're flying etc

As a general rule, kill the drones.

Warriors eat Hobgoblins and Acolytes. Acolytes eat Warriors and Hornets. Hobs and Hornets can't track drones as well but they are ideal for killing ships.

Assuming you've made the strategic decision to focus fire on drones (sometimes the right call, sometimes the wrong one), a fair part of the answer comes down to - are you fitting a web?

If you have one or more webs, I like to let hostile drones get close, keep my warp scram on the hostile ship, then blap the hostile drones with drones one size larger (if I have them). So use Hammerheads against webbed Warriors.

If you can't spare a web (either you have none fitted or you need to keep the hostile ship webbed to prevent it dictating range) then use same size drones.

And if you establish that the hostile ship has a remote repair module fitted, leave the drones alone and shoot only the ship.

New players should be aware that it is not only possible to lose your ship with smart bombs in highsec, but also quite a lot of security status all at once.

Confirming this. Heard of someone getting tricked into going to -8 sec status - highsec illegal - when ten pods warped on top of them while they were smart bombing. Boom.
