Gas Mining in a wormhole

I have heard that there is a lot of money to be made mining gas in a wormhole. I was planning to skill up for the Prospect and Gas harvesting and try day tripping for that purpose. I have very little wormhole experience, but I have read up on the basics. I know there are sleepers, which are tougher versions of drones and there is no local channel (watch your d-scan). I also realize the problems with the hole despawning and potentially trapping somebody without a means of scanning their way out.

Does anyone have any tips for me? Is it even possible to do this solo?

Its possible to do solo, but the venture may actually be a better ship for it, especially while getting started. The hauls won't be as big, but the +2 warp strength will help considering that you won't be able to fit a cloak on a wormhole prospect. (the utility high will be used up by a probe launcher).

There's a few blog and guides online for this sort of activity. Check them out.

I can use a mobile depot or whatever it's called to change the fit of my ship on the fly if necessary. I was thinking about scanning down a good wormhole with an exploration frigate and then going in there with a Prospect.

The problem is the sleepers, just make sure you can kill them off

Any suggestions on how to do this? Is it possible to speed tank them? What type of sleepers will I face in the various levels of wormholes? The most a venture has is 2 hobgoblin II's. Somehow that doesn't seem like a lot compared to what I have heard about sleeper drones.

None of the 2 mining frigates will stand a chance against sleepers.

So essentially, I need somebody to clear the sleepers from the site as they spawn? How long does it take them to spawn?

From the time ANYONE initiates warp to the gas site there is a 20 minute timer before the sleeper spawn and no mining ship would survive, unless they are not scrammed or have reps

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

It is possible to "ninja mine" as much gas as possible before the sleepers spawn, and then warp out as soon as they spawn. If you take any aggro though, you'll be toast.

This is especially effective in a system with multiple gas sites. Bookmark each (don't warp to them) and then come back in your venture. Hop from site to site and take gas until the sleepers chase you out. You do have to be close attention, but ventures are quite cheap should you mess up. (Or just time it and only stay 10-15 minutes instead of 20. If the sleepers aren't there when you arrive, then you probably spawned them).

Another solution is to clear the sleepers in a combat ship. A well fit battlecruiser should have no problem with the gas sites in a C1 or C2 wormhole, and you might even be able to do them in something less as the gas sites are some of the easiest. However, the lower end wormholes have the least valuable gas in them, and the upper end sites will be too difficult to run solo. You may find you are making more from ninja mining an instrumental core reservoir in a C5 or C6 wormhole for 20 minutes than clearing the lower end sites.

Google the sites before warping to them. Some sites have sentries and they are already there when the site spawns. They will slaughter a venture.

Properly fit a venture can take 2 - 5 shots from sleepers in c1 - c2. Plenty of time to warp to safe when they spawn.

I used to solo clear sleepers from C4 mining sites using a pre-nerf Gila

compared to combat and exploration sites the mining spawns are easy

take a combat fit BC
refit to mining lasers @ depot
