Investors sold huge amounts of investments with long-term capital gains to take advantage of the expiring 15% “Bush” long-term capital-gains tax rate before the current 23.8% rate for higher-income investors took effect. The market surged, investors’ new gains were held mostly in short-term positions, which they were loath to sell given that short-term gains are taxed at ordinary income-tax rates (39.6% for high earners).

The market offlined as a result.

Yeah this has been plaguing the market for days now. There has been a couple of minor patches and it still has not been fixed so it's apparently not a simple thing. Too bad there is no data we can put forth in a petition to assist with the problem which I suspect is why the other thread is locked as simple complaints don't help much.

Anyone experienced this outside of Jita?

This has happened 5 times in the last 40 minutes that the "Market is not Ready". A dev posted in a locked thread about this that the market had a couple of hiccups. 5 times in 40 minutes is not a couple of hiccups.....its a major issue.

Expansion history.....introduce new stuff.....break 16 other things.

Had problems with 'Market Not Ready' throughout the day on Sunday. Caused a considerable amount of problems for the situations where I was in a time crunch and needed to check/buy market items RFN, only to have the market be unavailable.

boot.ini was never in danger if you followed OS partitioning best practice, that is: one partition for system, everything else goes on at least one other partition. Blink

Now this is happening in Dodixie. Seems like CCP needs to do some upgrading.
