I knew this time would come but I could never put myself into typing a wall of text... but here is my own thread on my adventures on EVE. I must say I love the game so far and I think I'll stick around for a long time :D
Sorry for the walls of text to follow. Read it if you want! the TL;DR = Eve is fun!

The names in this bit of typing are made up, but actually refer to real players.

In 2013 I started an account but only played it for a month, and left it to die. I mostly made the mistake of skilling into literally everything. And I ended up mining and being bored.

So..
I saw the new 6 month deal and I decided to start over and get some focus into this character.

Since I never really dug into EVE my knowledge on ships and races and all that is very limited but I liked the looks of some of the Minmatar ships and I decided to give them a go. So I go through all the creation stuff and create my own character to be fully focused on PvP.

Skipping most of the non combat related tutorials I end up doing missions simply because I need the ISK and while talking in the NPC corp chat. I meet Hella in the NPC corp chat and I decided to travel over to the system she suggests to fleet with her in PvP.

We were discussing what ships to take and while doing so we got some "Welcome to EVE" funds from someone in the NPC corp. That ISK basically funded my first couple of wrecks. Yes, wrecks haha. Both Hella and I weren't really too careful with the ships we were flying. To be honest, every single kill on us made us meet new people. Sometimes the people weren't that nice, but mostly we were approached with a smile and not even podded because we asked questions on how this and that happened, and what did the person do to cause it. What can we do to prevent is, stuff like that.

As my previous EVE experience was limited I always thought that PvP ppl were absolute .. well.. not nice. But to be honest, I find the EVE community to be really welcoming to players that are eager to learn. On our explorations into lowsec we got shot, exploded, podded, laughed at, helped out, and shot some more. Our extreme skills with D-scan *cough* enured we found everyone before they found us. And of course we walked into every obvious trap to find.

From the top of my head, my first death was by a Tristan that was sitting in a PLEX. I fitted a Rifter since they just look cool. So we went for that Tristan after we finally managed to get an idea of where it was actually sitting thanks to D-scan.

Hella warped in, I warp in right after and there it was on my overview! I started to approach and all of the sudden there are 4 other yellow blinking things on my overview. And the drones! So I try to shoot it.. but it wouldn't let me! I got a popup saying I need to change the safety and I manage to switch it to Red and start shooting... I didn't know it was a drone ship but.. it just didn't want to die haha. But we kept shooting at it and scram + web it. It was no use. we got killed. In a pretty explosion.

But hey it was fun, and we had a little chat with the guy afterwards. To learn from what we did wrong.

Eventually we met some more like minded new people and we grouped up. I did some roaming with Timber as well, a true pirate. He is dedicated to never log out in high sec. To loot wherever he can get away with it, and just shoot stuff.
A perfect companion.

So we were doing our little roam together, looting stuff and scanning for possible targets. All of the sudden we find someone and Timber challenges him to come over to an asteroid belt. I warped over to timber and there we were, waiting.

While the adrenaline started pumping for my, hopefully first kill, the guy warped in
in an Executioner. We start to do our full web and scram stuff and open fire. Obviously we were no match for him because he simply shot us both down with his T2 fit haha. So Timber managed to warp his pod out but I got Scrambled. And I thought "well, this is it.." And a conv window opens with the guy and Timber in it. He asks "Did you upgrade your clone?". I'm not sure how the rest of the conversations went but it basically came down to him liking our attitude of just jumping into PvP and inviting us on a roam later after giving us some advice on why we lost the fight and on our fits.

The roams with him I won't describe but let's say, they were interesting and again, I learned a lot of it. I even got on some kill lists. Loads of fun to say the least :)

So after a while of doing PvP we finally managed to get our first nubfleet only PvP kill. It was an insane adrenaline rush. Hella managed to scout the person out who was in an Incursus I believe and Timber and I warped in. Apparantly it was a trap because 2 more warped in after us and managed to kill Timber. We told eachother to keep shooting at the Incursus, no matter what.

Since Hella once duelled me with a long range Incursus fit I assumed that this one would be longer range as well so I orbited at around 1k. I was told when facing long range you need to stay close to your target to reduce the chance of getting hit.

I was wrong.

The Incursus had the short range blasters and basically started to shred me. I did realize I was getting a lot of damage but I just thought the guy had great weapon tracking, maybe T2 or something. And in my mind I was doing fine.

At some point I got webbed and scrammed while I was hitting hull. I was armor repping. But it didn't really do much...
I got a bit scared but decided to go down in flames if it's needed. The guy was in Hull! So all of the sudden the guy exploded!
I thought it was me so I tried to warp out my pod and.. well.. aparantly I warped out my ship in flames due to being down to 7% structure!.. While jumping I realised.. then someone else killed the guy..cause the explosion was in my face.

I look at my kill log and.. It's there! :D Some random person of the extra people apparantly shot him fro 200 dmg or something and they werent even on the same team hah. So I was kinda thankful for that.
Being all hyped up about our first nubfleet kill I forgot to say GF in local and sent the guy an evemail.

Of course we did some more roams after that but up until now, none as successful as that one day. (for me at least ;) )

So I figured, since I've blown up quite some ships and my wallet pretty much just shows red numbers at the moment I need to get me some way of ISK.

Since I realized scanning and probing is something very valuable in PvP I decided to fit a "Probe" with some big equipment to make the scanning and salvaging work. Of course I am playing the pirate role so I decided to just go out in some asteroid belts and loot other people's wrecks.

Now, here is a thing that got me. I didn't check the sec status of the system I was looting / salvaging in.

So I got my suspect tag, which I had before while looting with Timber, and I didn't pay it much attention.
At some point I got to a belt with a Retriever in it. The retriever instantly warps off, probably cause I'm a yellow blinky due to the suspect status. And there was a rat in the system. So I decided to attack the rat since it already shot me to 50% shield. And all I have are drones due to dual salvaging modules and a cloak. So I target the rat.. or at least I still see myself targeting the rat... and send my drones in.

And whoop! I explode! Not being podded but.. just dead... Concord shot me!

I was so amazed i didn't even warp out my pod. I was just staring at the screen. At some point I just shrugged and warped out to a station. I was sure I didn't shoot the miner.. how could I, he warped out..

But there he was.. the miner got a killright on me!

hahaha so I was ..confused but alright.. I decided to jump into a rookie ship and fly back to my HQ to refit something to pick up my remains. I get the same pop up warning I once got when I undocked while I was still in duel so I paid it no mind and undocked anyway...

I wanted to warp to the first gate on my route but I couldn't warp.... "Due to recent activities" .. or something.. I look at the top left and notice I'm a red blinky. Since cruising to the gate is no option I decided to redock and simply wait for 14 minutes.

IThey wouldn't let me in! I was so confused.. And then..

BOOM!

Concord shoots me again!!

At that point I was really confused haha. I guess you can't fly into high sec as a red blinky without getting blown to smithereens unless you are in your pod. Well.. another lesson learned I guess ;)

I'll have to try it again sometime and see what went wrong since the retriever didn't want to start a conversation to enlighten me. :/

You might want to put something positive about it at the start then cos I wasn't prepared to read a wall of whining about eve, I'll read it now knowing this isn't(?) The case.

Edit: worth the read, tl:dr-op gets eve

An interesting story about new players going out in Eve and making their own content instead of running missions endlessly, losing a shiny ship, and quitting forever.

We could use more of these.

Glad to see you are heving fun in your second attempt at EvE. And looks you found the key! To play with others, to play 'multiplayer' in an MMO!

And yes, Eve's PvP community is quite friendly when you show promise & can take a defeat. In such case, many are willing to teach you a thing or two!

May you meet many enjoyable folks on your journey and learn of Eve's rich player history!

Still, though, tldr. But that's okay, glad you're having fun.
