Kronos and Marauders in general.

Hello there! I've got a question for the more experienced PvErs out there.

I'm mainly doing highsec 4s and right now I'm flying a 1400 Arti Mach. However, my skills are still not perfect for it and I've realized that I could be flying a Kronos with equal if not slightly better skills.

How good is the Kronos currently? Is it worth the switch?

Thanks in advance!

In general...
Marauders got 2 perks..
1. Looting: bonus to tractors and salvaging hence you can use superior cargo size and the bonuses to loot and salvage on the go.
2. Bastion mode: you are now immune to EWAR and got stupid bonus to tank.

blaster kronos is pretty awesome if you have a mission where you can get up close and brawl it out. and it has pretty good range with Null to pick off a few things at range. Damsel is probably one of the best missions for it. I think the kronos is pretty nice, but I don't use it a whole lot. It can also fit rails, but I generally don't use it like that.

The 800mm AC mach can do the same pretty well too, it has far better mobility and damage selection also. and with 1400s, the mach is pretty decent. I prefer AC for most missions, but an arty fit is very useful for some missions.

Only downside of a marauder is if you rely too much on bastion for tank they can die easy on disconnect.

personally I think the bastion mode makes the marauder worth it alone (the extra salvage is just icing on the cake) no more jamming or super annoying damps or tracking disrupted to hell and back. of course being able to t2 the entire tank is nice as well, more iskies to spend on pvp ships and makes you much less of a gank magnet.

Agreed. I love my vargur. Bastion is amazing with an MTU. :D

This is why I've stepped away from my paladin, I know it will happen to me sooner or later. Most likely sooner.

3. You can use short range weapons (and thus have higher damage output) without having to slowboat into range.

90km with scorch is nice. MJD, bastion, pew pew.

Also helps if you Disco cos all the tackle is dead from Scorch.

Personally I consider this to be the only really heavy downside of Marauders. They are slower than other BSs, cost more, etc., but the disconnect thing is the only really unsettling thing about them in my opinion.

That said, a disconnect is not an automatic loss. I've have, in a Golem, survived several socket-closed errors and a few other random disconnects and haven't lost it yet (the closest left me with a slim amount of armor damage). Don't giver your hopes up, but don't immediately assume your Marauder is instantly wrecked from a DC.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

The real danger is a disconnect while scrammed so killing any scramming frigates immediately ( rather than thinking "I got bastion who cares" ) will substantially increase your chances of the ship being alive when you log back in after a DC.

In my case, service that is interrupted is not restored for several minutes. Its not really a socket closed thing. Hasn't happened in a good long time, but when the issue rears its ugly head again I will be screwed.

I use Tachs & 2 TCs: 38km optimal with Gleam melts mission rats. INMF has a 75km optimal.

Also MJD bonus, use less ammo, can sport a 2-3 slot tank so more room for damage/tracking/damage application/sebos.

Regarding the Kronos, MJD with Railguns is a much more viable option than MJD with Blasters. Dispatching frigates beyond 120km is trivial.

Dunno... once I got sentry drones I can't imagine myself using combat ship without them. they are my bread and butter.

All Marauders perform similar for sniping purposes. Up close they differ in potential dps and difficulty of application.

Pick the one that has the best damage types for what rats you shoot and stop worrying.

I just recently got my Paladin and I LOVE it. I warp in, drop an MTU, bastion mode. And by the time the dust settles all the wrecks are in a nice little pile by my ship awaiting my salvage drones to devour them.

And thus is why you always set bastion module recycle to off.. yes you have to hit it every 60 secs to restart it..... normally you don't need 60 secs to be done with bastion. At least that is how my pally goes.
