You forgot to mention the largest area for generating large amounts of isk with even less risk - highsec.

In all fairness, the velocity of price increases on Plex are ridiculous this year.

Whatever the cause[s], it needs to be addressed, asap.

For CCP's defense I think they're aware of the issue and doing their best to adress it properly. But it's not easy. They can't sell unlimited amounts of plexes on the market, they can't stop people from stockpiling 2000 plexes, the only thing they can do is setting up a max price, but I'm not quite sure they're ready for that yet. They will have to anyway at some point just to calm down speculation because it's getting crazy.

Maybe one day someone will realize that free market can't work in a game when it's about real money trading. It's their business and they should set the price around what's profitable for them, not around what players want it to be.

An option not yet explored is simply lowering the price of PLEX. The markup compared to a 30-day subscription is pretty huge.

If stockpiling really was a significant factor affecting PLEX supply to the 'consumers' (those who use it to extend game time, as opposed to the pure traders), I don't think it would healthy for the game. Seems it would disrupt the natural balance between $-rich and ISK-rich players.

If that was the case, I wonder what would happen if PLEX had an expiration date. Say 6 months.

Which would mean they'd start competing with their resellers, which is a no go.

If you ant cheaper PLEX, buy them somewhere else.

imo a plex price should be the same as the monthly subscription fee for eve

but thats just my 2cents

Why?

What is your reasoning for that?

Maybe some perspective is in order? I don't subscribe... to the idea that PLEX being worth a meager four times as much as a Tech 1 BS as a bad thing.

PLEX isn't the only thing the market is adjusting the price of.

if their resellers are all significantly undercutting them already (yours sells for 1/3 less than CCP sell them) then that leaves plenty of scope for a reduction, no?

Comfirming that plex prices went down for a bit, wich means i could buy plex to add to the stockpile for less isk a pop- ty i will turn more profit when i sell them ( when it hits 1b)

Every time someone creates a"plex prices are silly-thread" i buy an extra 50 to make sure the price goes up more : peiple obviously buy them cuz othewise they cant 'play' grindfest online

Pay with sub or stop playing or just deal with it - aslong as plex are on the ingame market we can/will/must stockpile these pixel-goldbars!"

- i bought 50 more while typing this post -

Thats like 10bil prift rite there!

While that would make obvious sense,
I'm not sure things work out that easily.

There are always going to be people who moan about the price of PLEX, if the price is high then people buying PLEX to extend game time are going to cry. The Price drops too low and people stop subbing their accounts with monehs and start using PLEX because it is more affordable, and CCP cry some more.

Why would CCP care about in-game PLEX prices? They've already gotten their real life money for said PLEX from whoever purchased it to begin with.

Because they care about PCU. More people online makes a healthier game.

PLEX prices aren't a problem per se, but if they're going up mainly because people are hoarding them, using them to buy clothes, or training a secondary character on an account, CCP get the same revenue but (arguably) a less lively game.

Yes indeed. CCP's customers are also EVE's content. It would be better for CCP to have an extra 10,000 people logging in even if that meant they weren't getting any more money, because the additional content those 10k people provide would attract, convert and retain still more customers.

To bad some dont see the obviouse issues here...
More players = more upkeep(costs)
At one point ccp will spend more then gain if subs get to cheap.. There are limits to eve- one obviouse one is jita ;) another is having to wait 4 days to wait for help incase of acc issues!
At this point people are just butthurt cuz plex prices are to damn high **insert memegif**
