Thoughts on Spending ISK...

I recently got a little carried away with spending and saw a dip in my NAV as a result of spending more than I was profiting, on PvP, BP investments, corp activities, MCT, etc... Since then I have developed my own budget where 1/3 of my profits go to my subscription/fanfest ticket plex fund, 1/3 back into trading, and 1/3 into everything else.

I am interested to hear how other MDers balance their trading with their other activities in the game.

I fly cheap, disposable ships. I think I've had three losses in the 250-500m range after insurance, one in the 100-250m, and none over 500m.

So most of my ISK just gets reinvested into making more, until some major purchase comes along (for instance, donating to worthy causes like PLEX 4 Good last year, or the New Order)

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

Since I started playing again I wasn't very interested in undocking, though occasionally I'll buy myself a new toy, usually something I can resell for a profit and use productively, something like a carrier or JF to move cheap goods from lowsec to Jita, or a discount mission ship if I get hit on the head. I don't often lose ISK, some minor losses to suicide ganking, tried helping someone save their tower and lost a couple of BS while having a bit of fun, I lost a bil a few months ago on some ships I thought were about to be bought up and then forgot to resell them for a couple of weeks, given away a bunch of ISK to various cool people. I donated a bit to PLEX4Good and I'm hoping to go to EVE Vegas or Fanfest, so there's a bit more down the drain :p.

For the first 6 months of 2013 I was reinvesting most of my profit into more BPOs for resale, the next 6 months I really slowed down and didn't bother selling much, since 2014 I've been biding my time, waiting for decent prices and investing ISK from BPO sales into AT ships which I hope are a bit more managable than thousands of blueprints.

So yeah, use EVE as a glorified eBay/chatroom client and you too can be rich!

I diversemy playstyle a lot , however i allways keep in mind to never let my losses go above what my income is each month after i have taken off the isk needed for plex's .Even though i usually just plex my account for 1 to 3 years in one go i still keep the plex a month per acc aside.

Over the last years i have done this mostly passive but every so often i find myself having bigger losses then '' i am allowed to'' wich usually is when i start trading again for a few months to ''keep my books clean''.

It is an unneeded way to do so as i could have a crapload more losses without it hurting the wallet but it is a side effect from the time when i started trading and actually did need to keep a close eye on my expenses. For some reason i just can't stand a NAV going down even though i don't mind the losses themselves.

We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.

My internet sucks and I have 2 new babies in the house, so there really isn't time for me to actually "play" EVE lately. Everything, except for my 1 monthly plex for my account, I spend my isk on goes back into the market to make me more isk (even the freighters I haul my goods with).

Like Flakey's I work on the pinciple of ending each month with more isk than I started it.

I changed my trading strategy some time ago to seek out minimum effort rather than maximum yield. I'm now averaging 7B a month in profit from updating my orders once per week. Whatever is left after PLEX and PvP costs just gets thrown in to the pile.

I started trading to make enough isk per month to purchase plex for my accounts. It didnt take long and I made more profit than needed. I decided to put 10% of my net profit into my own corp wallet in case one day i want to purchase something big for pvp. Since years my wallet is growing, i never touched the isk, but i found myself trading on one pc screen and ratting with a carrier on the other, to make isk for new pvp ships. Long story short: The isk I am making on my trading alt, stay on my trading alt.

Bad time to spend isk, prices are going down due to the manufacturing tax. Isk is at least for a few days.

"There is a new tax on manufacturing."

"This means the prices manufacturers ask for their products will go down."

Now a days I also go max profit from minimum work. Each week i round off my trade wallets to the next full billion mark, to track profits and see what is left for living costs (plex, pvp, bling, fanfest, running an alliance, and other fun and weird stuff). My trade wallets is always growing, though some weeks more than others Roll My spending wallet is all over the place. Fanfest and chars really take their toll Shocked

Only spend isk when it's going to make me more isk.

Not sure what you're talking about really.

I have a "budget" for my pvp players. I set aside a 20 billion isk buffer for them. In all the time I've been playing eve online I don't remember them making a net loss of more than 2bil. I set my income at about 4 bil isk per month in order to keep getting ahead and to not spend too many hours grinding.

If I dip under the 2bil point then I'll consider scouting and tackling (or coaching new FC's) which allows me to participate in a useful role without spending a crap load of isk. Frankly, FC-ing is the most fun and the cheapest activity in EVE. I enjoy it enormously. I do it dual-boxing a max leadership, max command ship pilot and the "real" FC. Most teams fully reimburse FC's for losses and it allows me to add value to my corp without losing a crap load of isk.

That's the thing, really. Have different roles. Switch between them. Don't carry an entire corp on your shoulders (been there, done that....)

If you're going to FC, scout out organise things then make sure you're not being taken advantage of.... make sure you're getting compensated for the extra work you do.

personally, i find anything bigger than a destroyer a dull matter, so i am naturally inclined to fly cheap.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Kind of like you, I just like to see my NAV after plex needs increase each month, other than that I don't really care. June/July my wallets were low due to Crius speculations but I've ended up making a ton more than anticipated(so far) and I think I need to turn my attention to burning isk really, as I've reached that point where it seems pointless to have so much isk/assets in a game where I'm increasingly less inclined to play as each year passes.
