which is entirely worthless for level 4 missions.

How does the Vargur compare to the Kronos for missions?

I ask because I have Battleship V for both Gallente and Minmatar... and am looking into a T2 BS soon.

I'm a drone guy and am currently using a Rattlesnake

Own both, fly both.

Think with the kronos is the damage types... now i've never had a problem with this, as i dont mission against sansha or blood (gallente and minmatar space just dont have them). BUT, anyone that tells you to use rails on a kronos is compleatly diluted, out of their mind nutts. you NEVER use rails on a kronos. in bastion, your falloff is 70k (or my fit will) with blasters, which means, if it's further than 50k, you could just mjd closer. 150k? MJD straight at it, STILL use blasters, apply better dps.

It doesnt tank, by the numbers, as much as my vargur (that's just the nature of shield tanks), and on paper, it says it gets 100 or so less dps, but since the optimal on blasters is usually out to 30k (or even 45 or so with null ammo), i apply it better at most ranges than the vargur (that has an optimal around, what, 4-6?). So, i feel that a kronos applies its damage better at all ranges than a vargur, even if in EFT it says it has less.

Neither ship has any problem tanking lvl 4's.

I run my Kronos with a ALL t2 fit, no bling needed. 80% of the time, it runs Null ammo (sometiems swapped for CN anti if all the BS's are close at the end of the mission). Unless i'm slow, i dont even use bastion mode. or drones.

Vargur, i use bastion mode a LOT more, BUT, i use a large gist booster (cheap one), not an x-large. It can perma-tank (just like the kronos), but i never ever do. Pulse tank both of them. I found that fitting the ships more for tracking than damage makes a bigger difference, so, each of them has 2 dps mods, and 1 tracking enhancer--and 2 tracking computers (scripted according to range/targets).

Machariels run faster. Because level 4 do not have enough incomming damage to need the marauder tank. But the marauder can be more effective on other pve scenarios.

So you bring an M1 abrams to fight a cloud of mosquitos.. and you are proud of it? Even if it would be faster to just use a Toxic Spray ?

L5 missions. While I do recognize this is a L4 thread, the Vargur is currently the best choice for L5s if you have a quiet-enough place and no carrier.

Also it's awesome to be able to tank a dread in a subcap....

Is the vargur good for lvl 4 missions? I'm asking first before I go crazy and buy one

It depends. If you plan to play in Angel space, Absolutely.
I ran some general numbers and taking pirate faction resists into the equation your secondary damage type loses between 10-20% dps compared to your optimal damage type, your tertiary sits in the area of 40-60% against lvl 4 mission ships.
So you go for whichever marauder fits the area-code or pirate faction battleship depending on your style and SP. Note that the Mach competes with the Vargur and depending on play-style is quite superior due to warp speed and its falloff bonus.
Vargur offers independance from crystal implants, and salvage/loot on the go if you single-box.

You say its different to fly? how? On a rokh I mjd out to 150km then fly away from rats picking them off. I assume on a mach I just drop straight into the nearest pack of enemy and blaze away pointblank? So how should the vargur be flown? and how would that differ from say a kronos? Why is the varg better then the kron?

Warp in. Drop tracor, Drop salvage drones. Bastion mode. Kill everything and occasionally press the shield booster.

None of this fancy flying around is required. It's like an old Torp raven from '06/'07

This, and compared to a Machariel, ha ha, funny, the Vargur, and all Mauraders are awesome mission machines that every real PVEer should have in their hanger. The Machariel is a fun toy for those who like to fly fast BSs with 800mm ACs and blast things real good. However the Maurauders are in a class all by themselves. Think miniature Dreadnaughts for Hi-sec. except with ACs that reach out a long ways, and a tank that laughs at whatever it encounters.

when i was young i used to use deodorant and a lighter to get rid of insects. until i burned a hole in the curtains that my mom had sewn herself. being grounded is not so bad when you're a nerd.

I dual box a Golem and Vargur. Its one hell of a kickass combo in missions. I also dont use tracking computers. I prefer 2 target painters, and 3 target painters on my golem. Reason I use TPs is they not only help the ship they're on, but also help the buddy ships. Especially when the rigs are for tracking. I just mjd both ships, bastion, kill, then mjd back to the gate. Bookmark my MTUs and come back later with dual noctis' to clean up.
