Do you care your character name?

I didn't realize names were permanent, so I just picked something that sounded vaguely space-ey and got on with creating my character.

It's pronounceable and capitalized, though, which is good enough.

There's a lot of really good names in Eve, and a lot that aren't so... plausible as a name, but at least we aren't inundated with number names and iNames like many other online games. I'd likely attribute this to the maturity of Eve players, and the lack of a significant apple-fanboy-playerbase.

As for if your name is capitalized or not, feel free to file a quick petition if you didn't capitalize it.

Is that someone you went to school with?

Nope, just a fantasy.

CODE is just a bunch of pirates; smart, organized pirates. It doesn't help to rage at them because that is exactly what they want. Dust yourself off and get back on your feet, you don't even have to talk to them.

Sigh... Asheron's Call... my first EVE character's name was a variation of my AC character's name. Unfortunately I no longer have the log in info for him and can't even remember which email address I used. For both games. :(

Also, toon names that start with lowercase letters drive me nuts.

I see a lot of characters in EVE with a lower case first initial and an upper case last initial, e.g. bob Smith What?

I care to the point of spending quite some time (edit: if necessary) to find a name I like.
I use "Riyria" in other games as well. It's a name I've read in a book once (not even the name of a person), which I liked the look of.
That said, I am not especially attached to a specific name. If I couldn't use "Riyria" in some game I'd like to play, I'd just have to look for another name I like.

Only slightly related: EVE is the first game where I joined voice chat under this name, and I've noticed it's not completely intuitive how to pronounce it, haha. A corpmate of mine actually "rescued" me there, adressing me with a pronounciation I've adapted since then.

I like more realistic names. I don't like names that are comprised of words, or that try to sound too badass, or that reference other IPs. People need to be more creative. But perhaps not as creative as I was, as nobody can pronounce my name.

I know how I'd pronounce your name. I'm not sure I'd be right, though, haha.
Edit: I'd pronounce it U-nez-kah Tu-ree-gahl (I hope my notation makes sense.)

Aside from that: I do like creating names by juggling with letters and syllables. I usually prefer that over using names from other IPs as well. "Riyria" in my case is an exception. I felt it was alright as in that other IP it is not the name of a person, and I really liked the looks of it, hehe.
I wouldn't call such "creative" names realistic, though.

Depending on the setting, names comprised of words can make sense, too, like in some fantasy settings the last names of elven races ("Silverleaf" or something like that). Or when the name is supposed to be a nickname, then something like "Quickdraw" can make sense, too.

Yeah thats what I usually do.

Seems like you got it right. Hard to be certain from writing. People seem prone to switching the z and e for some reason, saying UnZEKa. Or Une-Z'ka I guess. I dunno.

Its You Nez Kah. but Ooo Nez Kah doesn't sound terrible either. Definitely not Neez/Knees. People don't even attempt the last name but I think you got it right. Two (the number) Ree (Reason) Gahl (I dunno how to describe this), not Ter (Turd. Turtle) Rye (bread) Gal (opposite of Guy).

I dunno if I'd get your name right. I'd say ReeRia. Wouldn't have known it was referencing another IP. Twinpeaks makes me think you're referencing your boobs.

I'm just tired of seeing boring and obvious Starseeker and such. Or lame Deathwing or Blackflame or whatever. Bleh. Sometimes I think it was a mistake for CCP to put in a selection of pre-generated names for each race. There are a ton of Tekitsus out there now. But I guess it's better than a ton of Starfarers.

Yeah. Years pass and what was made up hastily long ago to fill the "character name" prompt for a throwaway trial sticks with you, generic and boring as it is. Pity there's no such thing as a name change service.

But still, better a Deathwing or Starseeker than Sir Buttcheek Fapsworth or xXD3ath888Xx or some (usually misspelled because taken) Game of Thrones reference.

True.

Speaking of Game of Thrones... watching interviews with George R. R. Martin, I don't like how he pronounces some of his own characters. I prefer the show's pronunciations. Oops

I took most of my character names from the books by Peter F Hamilton.

Unfortunately the character name I really wanted was taken by a dead trial account a few months after the game launched: Ione Saldana :(

I would have gotten your name right, then :) And you mine, too! Aside from the Twinpeaks part... many people think that, and I can see why. I was just randomly remembering the old tv show "Twin Peaks", though, and thought it sounded nice.
