Mid cycle ammo switch / reload

Currently when you're shooting at something and you want to change ammo, you have to deactivate the module and then wait for the confirmation from the server to get back before selecting an ammo type to switch to from the rclick menu.

Selecting an ammo type from the rclick menu of a module should cause that module to automatically deactivate and reload at the end of its current cycle. (Like what happens when you run out of ammo.)

Has this been proposed before? Thoughts?
Thanks!

As a reply: You already can pre cancel a cycle so you are able to select and load the module right at the end with no time delay. The server confirmation arrives before the cycle ends. Give both actions (start and end) and you will have no delay from the server, also helps to save ammo and increases applied dps. Hope I haven't given away too many secrets hereRoll

As another proposal regarding ammo reload, I would love a "cancel reload" if you click on it again, sometimes in the heat of battle you load the wrong type by miss-clicking. To interrupt a loading cycle to start anew should always be possible since the whole cycle (that starts again) is for un- and reloading anyway.

time to reload is part of weapon balance so if you remove it it wolud require to rebalance every weapon in game...
doable but not small thing.

Nobody mentioned skipping reload time at all, learn to read and comprehend. We a re talking about pre-selection or pre-cancel only. All timers are supposed to run as normal.

It has been mentioned in the past and will doubtless be mentioned again.

It remains a good idea, but seemingly very low down on the list of development priorities.

+1 especially with the longer cycle things like tc/onmis, sometimes lag forces an extra cycle

The problem is that this sort of thing should not be a low priority. One of the main complaints with eve is that the actual core game play of flying your spaceship is not fun. Small changes like this would go a long way without affecting balance to fixing this.

Currently.
Ah I see this Vengeance coming to attack me. I am firing explosive doing little damage, but then remember it had a weak thermal resist so I will reload to phased plasma and try and stay out of rocket range. Stop firing wait for cycle to end, right click scroll down menu, select ammo, reload, fire. Except you do this while trying to hold range and manual orbit by double clicking in space, something poorly compatible with a tiny drop down list.

Future.
Same Vengeance, click hold weapon, select ammo from radial menu, mouse over release click weapon finishes cycle, starts reloading, finishes and start firing again. Whilst this happens i am focusing on what matters, flying my ship. Not tiny text in drop-down.

All these components are already in game. Contextual radial menus, check. Auto reload at end of cycle, check. Pre activated modules, check. Its all there just need to string it together.

Doing this doesn't give an advantage you still have to know to reload and make that choice, you still have to fly well keep that range avoid tackle etc. What it does is let you focus on the important bit. The knife edge flight, the fun.

Agreed.
With anything bigger then small waepons you can do it manually already if you are quick enough, but it sure would help. It neither detracts from existing features but would be a sensible addition to get rid of annoyances and non related gameplay delays.
