Hmm, did drones change?

I set 45 drones as assist on a single person in my fleet. They function just as expected when Ratting, attacking corp members, attacking things in null sec, but today I noticed something just plain off... Had a red flashy show up on grid, a ganker, My drone leader attacks red flashy, all drones set to assist just sit back and twiddle their thumbs, so i try against to cast them off two more times on the same target, nothing. Then somebody came up to loot the now concordukken'ed red flashys loot, I try again twice more to send them off, nothing.
I wondered if they were set to defend, but I quickly dismissed that after checking by attacking a rat, functioned as expected.

So... did drone behavior get changed by ccp or is this a case of drones being drones again?

Have you shot rogue drones lately? If yes, that may be the cause. Check your drone's AI integrity and the buffer banks on the ships for rogue drone corruption.

You need at least 100 drones in your fleet for it to work right. Roll

...this is starting to bug me. I can't find information that says they changed it in this regard.

Am I going crazy or is it just the bugged Drone AI breaking 5 times in a row?

It probably has to do with your safeties, those got changed recently. Set them to red, then shoot a can with all of those drones. You'll know if it works.

They already run at yellow, guess no harm in setting them to red to see if that helps any. Odd for that to be required though, since first target was red from a ganking and the second from looting that gankers wreck. Ah well, lets see how the red fares =_=

drones set to assist does NOT work in low sec at all. Not once. Not even a little. Were you in low sec? Never tried it in high sec.

I only ever done it in null, and high sec. In null it always worked against players, this is the first time ever I had the chance to do it in high sec. I was really sad I missed out on two kills. :(

If you want the real answer instead of me trying to trick you into CONCORD'ing yourself, here it is.

That particular problem is a side effect of when CCP patched out the drone interaction with the MTU deployable. Previously, if you shot at an MTU that was owned by someone who had their drones set to aggressive, the drones would attack you for it and give that person a limited engagement timer, allowing you to kill them. This was a natural consequence of how the aggressive drone behavior was supposed to work.

Well, rather than tell people to HTFU (because that's been off the table for a while when it comes to highsec), CCP rolled out a hasty hotfix designed to keep drones from pulling their owner into a limited engagement in highsec.

Ever since, drone assist has been fairly well borked.

meh, if I concord myself, it will be funny, but seriously though, does being red work?

It should since it removes all safeties thus allowing you to be blabbed by concorde.

Something else worth trying:

Set drones to aggressive and launch them into space. No assist/no Guard. Just plain self defense.
Let yourself (or one of your drones) get attacked by someone from within your drone control range.
As defending yourself is always legal in regards of CONCORD the expected result should be that your drones attack the aggressor.

This, however, does not happen. Your drones stay put and idle. This also appears to be the result of the MTU Nanny fix.

This holds true for highsec, not sure how the current state is for lowsec and null.
