I pirate in lowsec from time to time, my rule is generally if I kill someone new, I'll convo them and if they're cool about it I'll re-imburse them for their loss, give them some pointers and stuff. Once killed a 2 day old character in a venture then podded him but we chatted and I felt bad so I dropped him 20 mil. The guy was cool (except for posting the mail I sent him on reddit - I got the **** taken by my corpies for a while about that one). The guy I killed did pay me the isk back about 3weeks later which I wasn't expecting and I like to think I helped him enjoy the game a bit more.

However, it's not entirely selfless. Most people here will remember that 4 year period where lowsec was empty as all hell, when carebears would go straight from hi to null and there was never any good hunting. By makinh new player's first trips to lowsec less traumatic you encourage more targets/pilots to come around in the future, and the more confident they are, the bigger ships they'll be flying...

So it's sort of like an investment for the future. I was surprised to read in the reddit thread I mentioned above that a lot of eve players think like this!

Because even after encountering scammer number 9213 or awoxer number 4527, there are random acts of kindness in eve.

so please, post here your experience with random encounters of kindess, which can reach from an pirate honoring a ransom, to someone helping you out form day 1.

lets hope people read this, and that it can help people find their way in eve, and its harsh, but sometimes very pleasant community.

I agressed a friend's BC in an enyo. Was losing the fight, and when I hit hull he stopped attacking. That was very kind of him. I have a pretty kill mail now.

I jumped a new-ish player doing a null data site in a Helios. Just as I got through his shield he started singing a verse from Major Tom in local.

I fully refunded his loss.

If I solo kill a person that is new to eve, which happens a lot, and I see during the fight that they struggle, but at least they stay for the fight (unless so many other cowards that run away in superior ship types), then I usually reimburse them 10x the amount of their ship loss, sometimes 20x, depends. That is as much as I can do to encourage new guys to get into solo fighting because oh boy, that is desperately needed.

To be fair, I have never experience random kindness. So I have that going for me. Which is nice.

I was once escorted out from a semi-hostile wh after I lost my Arazu on a failed attempt to beat a moros closing the aforementioned w-hole.
The closed w-hole "remains" and decloaks you if you warped to 0 and it's closes while in warp, being new to W-holes I learned this the hard way.
Anyway surprisingly I wasn't offered 'a pod express' but a hole leading to high sec.

I used to buy pirate ships just to see what they were like, fly them a couple of times in highsec then give them to friends or random people in my NPC corp. The reaction of some people when they realised I was serious about giving them away was priceless and very rewarding.

I tried to think of an act of kindness that was visited upon me in game but... I couldn't think of a single thing. Oops

This is the post I was considering writing. I treat noobs in lowsec well. Why scare them off?

I still blow them up, obviously. But I will convo, share fits, give them the 'you shouldn't get podded in lowsec' lecture, maybe send a little isk.

I sometimes buy a random ship, take it to a safe, and then eject and leave it for people to scan down and find.

It was my first time in a wormhole, i pretended to hack relic and data sites in a probe withouth knowing those sites were escorted by sleepers, in the middle of my probing (the old probing, while you must move a probe one by one), a Loki appeared and crushed my ship, i escaped in my pod to high sec, then docked, the player talked to me and reimbursed my loss with 5M, also he gave me tips and that the same happened to him when he first entered in a wormhole.

... I consider it a great act of kindness when people unanchor faction POS towers, six or seven at a time, then "race" around in a freighter (of all things) to apparently save trips by picking up all the structures and towers by only making one trip to each moon... Roll

Suffice to say, they no longer own said faction towers and the hundreds of structures involved... but I appreciate the generousity all the same. Pirate

Same. I've tried to repay it by spending time in rookie chat and answering queries where possible (forums/channels etc). Someone gave me 5m early on for answering questions there, but being recruited by someone watching channel was more useful. Advice seems way more helpful than raw ISK, although I sometimes give stuff to newer industrialists if they poke certain alts with queries.

Sometimes I refund random ppl stuff they've bought (usually around Christmas). Even vets seem quite pleased by that, it doesn't just have to be about helping new players.

People I pop are often too busy squawking in local to stop and give advice to so I usually just pod them to stop the racket. Although I've invited a couple to ingame channels to chat to people if they weren't too rabid. Reading some of the comments here I'll pay a bit more attention to the age of the character. There are still players and corps who frown on piracy/ganking or attacking rookie ships/haulers because they had bad experiences when they started.

People who are friendly and have a good sense of humour will get help from unexpected players. The 'harsh universe' thing is in part a myth and I'm not sure the flipside is advertised properly. Strong corps and alliances survive because they look after their members and form close ties. Even solo players can form ties if they don't take things too seriously.

I will be forever grateful to a group of belligerent skunks who war dec'd the corp I was in when I started playing EVE.
If it hadn't been for them, I would never have opened my eyes to what EVE truly is about and the possibilities of content creation it offers. Because of that war dec I've come to love EVE like no other game.

So in my eyes, this was the greatest act of kindness that happened to me, personally, in EVE. <3

I once decided to go dunking indies in my stealth bomber and got my prober lol'd by some wh residents while I wasn't paying attention. Turned out my main had left is probes at home like a fookin legend on gin alley, so I convo'd the gents to see if they'd sell me an exit since they'd closed the door behind me. Pretty much expected them to boosh my ransome and have me warp to the sun for an honourable send-off in my pod, but after 15 mins of witty banter they told me I was a chillbro and gave me a free pass.

Couple months later I ended up back in the same hole, with my probes this time and not welping my scanner. Passed on the opportunity to suprisesex two of their innocent little newbros tryharding a site in two drakes. Started chit chatting them again when another day-tripping snoop showed up and had a go at the drakes. I warped in just in time to save one of them and helped him dunk the offending bastard back to his clone station. At this point they've sort of smitten with me, all kinds of thanks and highfive in chat. Feeling that the debt was repaid, I made my way out.

Not sure if I won't violence them next time I happen by, but having some random newbros like pet goldfish is pretty neat.

I gave a noob a Drake and a Retriever.

I gave someone a Pithum C-type Invuln and two Fed Navy Webs for their Vindicator.

I gave another someone the same mods for their Vindicator.

Someone gave me a Machariel.

But he was drunk, so I gave it back a couple days later.

Great thread. I was mining with a buddy and an orca showed up in the same belt (plus mining ships).

The orca pilot convo'd us an offered his bonusus. Turned out to be a husband and wife duo who were playing the game together. Nice people. I've also been given Isk when I was new.

I hope someday to pay it forward.

Many moons ago I killed rifter in 0.5, he sent me a convo and asked how I was able to kill him as his corp told him it was 'safe' space.

He congratulated me on my kill and we had a laugh about eve and things.

So I had a few spare ships and fittings I sorted him out and sent him few quid.

My one and only good deed!

There are so many sad and lonely people around,
who simply try to be nice and happy to have friends somehow ...

... it's quite saddening.

Not a single day in the last weeks went by,
when I haven't met a new person that's actually only looking for
a friend to share thoughts and feelings with.

Kindness isn't enough. What's needed is dedication.
