Recently I decided to downscale from my much loved 140 million skill point main, the plan to spread my skill points across different accounts in the hopes to maximize the potential of the up and coming industrial changes.

My character was "Bland Inquisitor" and after a little bit of market research I estimated his value at around 50-60 billion isk. I planned out how much money needed to go where to make my new direction a reality.

I place all my assets on courier contracts to jita and my capitals on the open market at a firesale rate to get a quick sale. I drop from my corporation after sending a mail saying I was to be sold and headed to Jita to await my assets to sell them and write up a sale thread.

The sale, I get contacted by multiple interested parties, some character resellers outright. I get approached by Ellon JTC a member of provibloc, he desperately wants the character. Although I receive an offer of 52b from a reseller I opt to take an offer of 47b from Ellon under the proviso that he was not a character reseller and it was all the money he had for a new main character. I felt good about helping another player. We even added each other to contacts and left the conversation friendly. I had also noted that a Cruor was still in build, if he wanted to contract this back to be he could but it would be no big deal if he wanted it as a bonus.

Soon after it hit him, I've still got two courier contracts coming to jita and a dread left on sale. The buyer seems like a nice guy however so instead of terminating the contract I instead send him mails, asking him to return anything I can't get back through other means. The courier contracts were easy, they were simply broken and the times taken by my alt.

The dread however, was probably already sold. Being listed at 2.3b instead of its market value of 2.7b I was sure it would of been sold by the end of the transfer period and the buyer would simply return the isk or ship if it didn't sell. This unfortunatly didn't happen. Once I had send the mails regarding the assets in transit/contracts all communications with the buyer went dead. The characters involved in the sale went offline for 3 days.

I send a petition, knowing that assets and isk cannot be part of a sale and having previous experience with mistakes regarding character transactions I was confident in my trust of the system put in place by CCP. This was a mistake.

3 Days pass, the first thing I get is a smug eve mail by the buyer claiming he didn't have to give my assets back;

Removed GM correspondence. _ISD Dorrim Barstorlode

Suddenly it took a drastic turn for the worse;

Yes, I had made a mistake not listing the clone locations, however giving them my dread as compensation? Twice in correspondence the GM team has claimed they normally give back assets and isk.

The clones are not useless to the buyer, They are in NPC Null. Somewhere a character with negative standings to empire factions would want to have clones...

but I digress, I'm not hoping for a resolution in my favor in this matter. I just thought people should be made aware this can happen. Esentially sold my 140m SP character for 44.7 billion.

You do realize that it's forbidden to post conversations with CCP employees without their approval right?

On topic: why on earth did you set up courier contracts instead of simple item exchange with yourself?!

I'm not very good at multi-tasking.
I'm still in shock, I knew it was 50/50 but to say "yes we will transfer the assets back" then "no its now compensation because the buyer sold it already" just infuriates me.

You got owned mate, badly. this guy took perfect advantage of the situation and managed to trick CCP into it, very smart thinking on his part and very bad on yours. let this be a lesson. Take your 47billion and continue.

i'm out 2.7 billion. The isk isn't the issue, its how easy CCP was manipulated. Its struck a very deep hole in my confidence in CCP as a company.

I stated I would post this thread,
I've asked for an escalation,
If its not locked I'll post and undate if/when it happens.

You created this thread to whine about a measly 2.7 billion? Seriously, the normal response would be to suck it up and move on, not brand yourself as an idiot whiner on the eve forums for all to see.

A decision has been made. You lost a couple bil because you didn't understand how the bazaar rules work, just like you don't understand how the forum poasting rules work.

Frankly, the title of your thread is misleading.

CCP didn't gift anyone anything. They simply chose not to correct your screwup. The management of the assets on your accounts is not CCP's responsibility. It's yours.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

How the hell does jump clones being in NPC null have any impact on their use? Strangest rational that I've ever heard. Oh, you might want to re-read the rules clause about communication with CCP employees.

Technically, it relates to this:

Quote:

6. The sell post must reflect the character correctly, posting that the character you're selling has more skillpoints or ISK than it actually has is a bannable offence. Similarly, a seller must disclose whether jump clones are located in 0.0, lowsec or highsec space.

In theory, he violated the terms of the character bazaar by not making that disclosure. In theory, CCP probably should have invalidated the sale, but that would have involved a lot of backtracking to find assets and the like, in addition to refunding the transfer cost, which could involved :realmonies: and a credit card company. So they took the other route, which is - you didn't comply with the rules, so you're SOL.

In practice, they could add a script that runs during the transfer process that checks for assets (other than rookie ships), unfinished contracts, and a wallet balance greater than some minimal amount (say 5 - 10 million ISK). If either of those flags is tripped, the transfer fails, and the onus is on the seller to correct the problem in a timely fashion.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

I'd like to thank the CCP GM's for opening the door to character sales scams. I will make certain to note every minor mistake in a sale post and use it as justification for either keeping what I find or having the sale invalidated or both.

Yeah, but that seems like way more effort than is justified by the issue
