Salvage Alt

I'm thinking of making a Salvage alt, looking to to the minimum skills it's easy to knock out on an alt with an additional training line, or pausing my main for a few days.

But skipping beyond doing the minimum, what kind of level do I need to actually be good at flying a Noctis and salvaging quick enough to make it worthwhile?

Is there some sweet spot between lvl1 min skills in 2 days of training, and lvl 5 skills for all requirements and a touch of core support at 89 days of training?

Evemon and all your questions will be answered.

Most important things for salvager are speed AND range of tractor beams and speed of salvaging. Noctis doesn't have to be agile or tanked or whatever, you warp in, lock wrecks and start dragging them into range of your salvagers. Oh, as far as I remember salvagers take quite a lot of cap so keep an eye on cap skills but it nothing you couldn't mitigate with mods/rigs.

I used EveMon to see time line for maxed salvaging skills and minimum support skills for the noctis, it's where I got the 89ish days from. Just wondering if there is a point where I don't need to go farther to save time. Some skills offer no benefit past IV, or the benefit is trivial. I was trust trying to find out from someone with experience if there were any like that.

This is noctis I used for L4s:

[Noctis, salvager]

Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II

Experimental 10MN Microwarpdrive I
Sensor Booster II, Scan Resolution Script

Small Tractor Beam I
Small Tractor Beam I
Small Tractor Beam I
Small Tractor Beam I
Salvager II
Salvager II
Salvager II
Salvager II

Medium Salvage Tackle II
Medium Salvage Tackle II
Medium Salvage Tackle II

This is minimum plan for it (blank character in Evemon):

ORE Industrial I
Mechanics III
Survey I
Survey II
Survey III
Salvaging I
Hull Upgrades I
Hull Upgrades II
Afterburner I
Afterburner II
Afterburner III
High Speed Maneuvering I
Long Range Targeting I
Long Range Targeting II
Long Range Targeting III
Long Range Targeting IV
Salvaging II
Salvaging III
Salvaging IV
Salvaging V
Jury Rigging I
Jury Rigging II
Jury Rigging III
Armor Rigging I
Armor Rigging II
Armor Rigging III
Armor Rigging IV

Total time: 24 days, 37 minutes, 58 seconds

If you want t2 tractor beams you need Science V which will add 5 days to above plan. I didn't have it when I was doing L4s, now I have it due to other skills requirements but really 5 days for better range and speed is nothing if we are talking about dedicated salvager here.

Of course that is minimum to fly this fit so you will take ORE Industrial skill higher than level 1 because obviously noctis gets bonus from it but level 4 is like 4 days only, level 5 is just 19 days resulting in 53 days plan. And that is unfocused mapping, with Int/Per it will take you 49 days, with +3 implants even less.

Edit: I used sebo and mwd because when I was salvaging my L4s there was no MTU and sometimes wrecks were spread along 120+ km if it was a mission like Stop the supplier when best bet was just to mjd at 100km and fly away from rats while killing them. Now mwd is not needed anymore so I would probably fit something else, maybe cap recharger or even second sebo. Or maybe not, sometimes mwd is nice for cutting down align time to minimize your exposure on gates and undocks. I was never concerned about fitting any kind of tank on it but if you are in not very quiet areas it might be a good idea.

I would just go for Algos (gallente drone destroyer) with max cargo expanders, mobile tractor unit and flight of salvage drones. If you do not need the alt for anything else that is.

If you want to go "bigger" just go vextor, It can be pushed to ~2800 m3 but is somewhat slower. A bit more CPU though so you can make drone range into ~125 km. Just be aware that salvage drones travel very slow.

Destroyer has speed bonus to drone MWD speed but you end up approx the same in vextor as you have more slots for drone nav computers.

Noctis is more for the case when you are getting serious about salvaging. So I would not push for that with just few days of training. Salvage drones 4 and you should be done salvaging in most missions before your mobile tractor thingy finishes looting (which takes a while).

Here, sanity... niiiice sanity, come to daddy... okay, that's a good sanity... THWONK! GOT the bastard.

You can salvage with destroyers and run L4s with drakes ghetto style or you can bounce around with golem and noctis like a bows :)
