EvE PvP Arena

I have been playing this game for years and love it, like most of us. But I have been waiting years now for a Rated Ladder System. I'm sure many people who would like to see this. Adding a 1v1, 2v2, and so on up to 5v5 with a secured ladder system would be great fun, and also teach people how to pvp properly. I.E. flying your ship in space. There is nothing like a healthy round of competition... hell it's what EvE is based on... my ship is better then your ship... warp to sun?

This ladder would reset every quarter or two. It would have one time only unique rewards for season winners, as well as unique rewards of lesser value for say something for like top 5%, 10%, 20% of the sandbox's ladder ratings. And to appease the people that just suck and want a trophy for participation, add something that is obtainable threw points, "I.E. you get 1 point for each arena played" "giving them a bone". Something that's not unique but of value like 100 points will give you a x-type or something to that effect. This would really drive pvp to a new level, as ladder's are always great fun and creates tons of stories and competition if done right, and the sandbox we live in is perfect because everyone can see who is #1 or #1000

To make it easy for CCP to implement, they could have them on separate nodes, that is say qued up from a major hub. And to keep the whole once it's dead it's gone effect that we all love, the ship that you just put together in jita is now saved and entered into que, one you join que your ship magically goes from your hanger in jita to the pvp hanger, of course if your ship dies you'll need to buy a new one, but if your the winner same loot drops apply, which then gets saved of course and can be brought back to the eve server.

If you think this is a good idea please have your friends to reply to this post. If you don't agree with a PvP Arena then also state why you think it's a bad idea. The more that reply, the more CCP pays attention.

No matter how much CCP would like it to be, Eve is not an eSports game (the AT not withstanding).

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

I hate how much this sounds like World of Warcraft. What you propose is almost word for word exactly their Arena system, with EvE terms subbed in the appropriate places.

I think EvE's Alliance tournaments are fine. I watch them every year even when I'm not subscribed to the game. While I can agree it would be nice to have year round competition, having a season and an annual tradition has its appeal.

Another thing is you are proposing a consistent system where players are entering a special node or instance, and they are not part of the one universe at that time. I think that's the biggest problem I have aside from starting a whole new class of elite neckbeard sperging about their "arena rating". BG9 or GTFO....

EDIT: Oh, I forgot one other thing. Probably the worst side effect that will inevitably come from such a proposed system is whining for nerfs and buffs to certain ships based on their performance in their respective arena brackets. Once we go down that road there is no stopping it, as you will never be able to balance ships for small scale arena style pvp and the real world. You fix one thing that solves a problem here, you break it over there.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

Normally I'm one to agree with Ramona on these things...

1) I understand the run it yourself sentiment but there are things we could get from CCP to make it better. If an "Arena" system was just a stage for players that could be broadcasted to billboards and captain quarters but the "Arena" brackets were player run would that be okay? Make it a toy in the sandbox vs. a carnival ride.

I've always thought New Eden could use a "grand stage" for stuff run by smaller groups. Its odd that we've forged huge empires yet broadcasting TV across New Eden is beyond us as Capsuleers. Maybe its a licensing thing?

2) I don't view 1v1 and 3v3 controlled PVP as a threat to PVP elsewhere in the game. Lets be honest saying "1v1?" in local in most areas of null is more of a joke than anything. A bad joke at that.

Well Im more sort of saying that CCP wont even consider supporting anything like this until theres a clear demand for it

The easiest way to prove there is a demand is to organise and run it

I was just trying to explain to the OP in the least kind way I could that CCP are not wish dispensign Gods. They are fickle forces of nature

Make your own ladder and rules. If you rise enough attention you might end up with the next rvb. Start your own arena.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

I'm certainly not saying that solo/small gang is in a wonderful place; it's not. At the same time, the more options you provide for people to engage in PvP that does not require them to leave highsec or any area of relative comfort/safety, the less you're going to see these people branch out into low/null to find fights. Sure, you may draw people into these arenas that otherwise would not have engaged in PvP. But ultimately these arenas are going to become even more formulaic and flavor of the month than the current PvP metas already are, and open PvP in other areas of space is going to suffer for it.

How about you do it yourself?

One guy was starting a 1v1 dueling league. Established solid rules to make it function.

Why does CCP have to do it when you can do it?

+1.

Not a bad idea to have a game mechanic that allows for controlled fights without the usual BS, and not a bad idea to have a ranking system like in incursions where top pilots get mentioned.

I see this as a few systems with beacons much like in faction warfare - beacons are classed by ship / mode type, and only those that are part of the league can enter the acceleration gate. Actual deadspace pockets should have variety of terrain to make it visually appealing.

it should have its own chat channels, its own leader board, and its own rewards.

it could be done, the tools are there. And i predict that THIS will be the most popular mode of pew in empire space.
