What are the good pvp training corps these days?

I've come back after a 3 year hiatus and before that I was just another rock-sucking, red-cross shooting, carebear playing the "just 1million more sp, then I'll leave highsec," game.

So where does one go these days for some pvp training? I'm mildly interested in joining the amarr or caldari militia, failing that, getting my butt out to nullsec for the first time would be fun. Anyone with a short and dirty list of corps that take on dumbos like me who don't know their arse from a hole in their hull, despite having a few dozen million sp?

I'd suggest FW, it's a great place to get your feet wet and it's cheap as well, however it will nuke your faction standing which can be very painful to fix. The other option is to join a pirate corp (what I did) which is also a great way to get started and the consequences of being a pirate (negative security status) is far more easily fixed compared to faction standings.

I'd recommend you stay away from null as most null entities are focused around blob fests and blues for 20 jumps in every direction, you won't really learn much other than how to target broadcasts and click F1. Doing things such as solo roams can also be a pain as you can't dock in stations, gates provide no protection so gatecamps are far more deadly and most people will just blob you since you'll have to travel to enemy territory to get good fights. Obviously blobs and stuff happen in lowsec too but in my experience there is more small gang warfare and solo flying is actually viable and that's where you'll learn the most about PvP.

How to find a corp? My advice would be to just pick a random lowsec region, haul some ships there (mostly PvP frigates, some PvP cruisers and a PvE ship and a scanning ship for making some money) and go out and go roam the area, eventually you'll get to know the locals. They will most likely blow you up but convo them after and have a chat, see who you like and see if they're willing to take you under their wing. I know it sounds like alot to do but this is the best way I've found my corps, the recruitment channel is full of crap, and if you don't have many friends in-game it's hard to get a good corp.

FW, amarr militia best militia.

Failing that join a pirate corp because decent pirates have a lot to teach if you can deal with the booze breath.

*p.s.* unless you know people do not join a null sec corp. Rarely is it the right choice for those wishing to learn pvp.

Another one here chiming in to say FW. I joined really quickly after completing the tutorials as a noob, and I love it, learned a lot very fast too.
If you go Amarr or Caldari, I'll be sure to wave when i'm looking at you through my gunsights!

Pirates in low sec would also be a great option, and contrary to popular belief, are mostly great guys!

Whichever you choose, lowsec is s blast!

Factional Warfare is always a good place to PvP. If you can get someone great to teach you the basics, you can get some great fights. I know when I was in Caldari Militia, one of my first losses was to Loren Gallen. Even though we were on opposite sides of the proverbial fence, he taught me the ropes, and I learned quickly. The best thing that can be said is to find a good PvP corporation (FW or anything else in low sec, really) and learn from them. Put together a bunch of cheap T1 frigates and go roaming.

Leadership is something you learn. Maybe one day, you'll learn that.

If you can scan - I recommend an active (PVP active) wh corp. You get to wonk on all facets of eve based on random exits to everywhere. I further recommend a smaller wh corp to learn the ropes. Too many wh folks are born and raised on the standard brick proteus/guardian/ecmgu fleets. Smaller corps tend to stay away from doctrines and actually have crazy fun. Be careful if you go WH - the blue donut is causeing boredome and there is more and more null creep into wh space. Some of it is good and some of it is bad.

Things I would avoid:
1- any corp that dictates (what dude likes dictate??) ships and fittings that you have to have
2- any corp that tells you what you have to train

I recommend for wh and against FW and null.

FW warfare seems to be a bunch of frigates nabbing each other at the sites. That's fun, but it doesn't have much to offer as far as learning pvp. You wanna fight frigates and have fun - then go for it. You want to learn pvp beyond that - prolly not gonna happen.

Null - it's just crap. They do a lot of things. Training new guys isn't high on that list. You can learn and I'm sure there are some good training corps, but the odds are against (NPC null would be a better learning option than SOV null - they are more about the pvp and less about the other hoo haw)

Pirate corps - another good choice. There is a range of what different corps do. If you want to learn pvp - don't gate camp ammamke.

If I had a choice between fixing security status (pirate) and factions status (FW) - I'd go pirate.
