Awkward Drone Bandwidths

I hate using different sized drones on ships like the vexor and prophecy (75Mb/s bandwidth). Now that the gecko has been released, how about a new type of drone with 15 Mb/s bandwidth?

Or... decouple drone size and bandwidth, so we can balance ships by how many drones they can carry as well as how many they can use at once.


Or... have a drone damage rig that increases the needed bandwidth as a penalty, so with drones rigging level five you can still have five medium drones with a vexor or prophecy, but extra damage.

Ships bandwidths are balanced to the flights they are supposed to be able to carry, not the other way around or just flung out there.

If a drone/flight can not be handled by a ship, that's because it is wanted that way, its a balance/role/trait issue, not a mistake or just an odd number.

There is absolutely no need to discuss the bandwidth in general in this fashion. You know you can group drones, split flights etc, right ? Meaning you can handle multiple flights of lets say 2 heavies and 3 lights and assign them to different targets.

If you want to suggest or discuss new modules to increase bandwidth, be my guest, but search first, since that is a many year old thing and probably marked in the 'common suggestion' sticky.

If you have issues with ships, that's a trait and role issue, again different discussion.

Your topic sounds more like a bug then a suggestion, try better next time.

5x Hobgoblins = 25Mb bandwidth
5x Hammerheads = 50Mb bandwidth
25 + 50 = 75.

The awkward number is so you can use either for example 5x goblins, or 5x hammerheads

Geckos fixed all the awkwardness in the drone bandwiths.

100= Gecko, heavy, medium, medium, light
Before you had to go with 3 heavy 2 medium and leave 5 db empty or use 4 heavies and be slower/track less on last drone.

75= Gecko, medium, 3 lights
Before it was 2 heavy 2 medium 1 light which was perfectly fine.

Get used to awkwardness and realize it's a setup that covers many scenarios.

You are rather quoting rather drone bay size with this then actual bandwidth examples.

Bandwidth examples would be:

3 Warden (3 x 25 mbit) = 75 mbit
2 Guards T2 (2 x 25 mbit) + 3 Warriors T2 (3 x 5 mbit) = 65/75 mbit (2 groups)
2 Ogre (2 x 25 mbit) + 2 Hammerheads (2 x 10 mbit) + 1 Hobgoblin (1 x 5 mbit) = 75 mbit (2 or 3 groups)
2 Heavy Armor Maintenance Bots (2 x 25 mbit) + 2 Medium Armor Maintenance Bots (2 x 10 mbit) + 1 Light Armor Maintenance Bot (1 x 5 mbit) = 75 mbit (1 group) = 75 mbit

Well I'm using a myrmidon. If I use light drones I'm using 25Mb/s bandwidth. If I use medium drones, I'm using 50Mb/s. So when I actually use 100 Mb/s, I'm using 2 geckos.

Your logic is all backwards, you are not using your bandwidth and make the drones fit its limit.

You are selecting the drones for a specific purpose, and chose the right amount and size for the job that your bandwidth allows.

And besides, this has stopped being a suggestion thread and a discussion about such a (missing) thing. You (or someone else) should close this thread and move this discussion (maybe in a new or the same thread) to the discussion forum, if there really is anything to discuss. And as I mentioned already, your topic doesn't even hint a suggestion. SO please ...
