Loot scattering's gone then...

Just did a relic site and was all ready for things to fly out all over the shop, but no. I don't visit the forums a lot so I didn't know the loot scattering thing had gone. Can someone point me towards the dev blog or forum thread or whatever where it was announced this was being dumped, and the thinking behind it?

I don't care that it's gone, I'm just interested to know why. Cheers.

First announcement was here:

The rest of that thread is pretty much why.

It's removal was stated here, other than that I don't recall it ever being directly discussed in a dev post.

Weird, so anyone who didn't see that thread at the time sees it's gone from the game without proper explanation? That's not normally CCP's way.

Pity, I quite enjoyed it (which I only realise now it's gone).

A bit annoying, certainly, but at least it wasn't boring. They seem to have replaced it with...right click->open cargo. Fun.

Frantic clicking isn't really less boring than deliberate clicks, simply more tedious and frustrating. Then again, value is subjective and there's no accounting for taste.

The Mini Hacking Game is still active.

Ugh

Too bad CCP didn't remove that as well. Already have plenty of mouse clicking being done in game, definitely don't need the Mini Hacking Game click-fest.

But...isn't the entire game mouse-clicking? If you don't want more mouse clicking that's like saying you don't want more game.

But yes, I get that it's a matter of personal taste. Personally I prefer to have as many different things in EVE as possible but if the majority thought it was rubbish it's fair enough to get rid. Just strikes me as peculiar there was no dev blog about it.

Actually the removal of the loot spew mechanic was announced by CCP a couple of months ago which was stated in a Dev Blog. Also it should have been listed in the patch notes as well.

Anyway, I'm glad it's gone. That was a terrible mechanic which didn't fit in with the rest of the game. Besides that, most players do exploration solo and CCP trying to get players to sit in a fleet waiting for a loot spew was just a bad idea.

They do it a fair bit actually. The first reworking of the RHML did not make a dev blog or patch note either, it was just randomly mentioned as a throwaway remark in a thread somewhere.

It was posted in Kronos - Release Overview under 'Changed game mechanics and other things'.

Also it was posted in the Patch Notes under Exploration :

Quote:
The loot scattering mechanic has been completely removed from all sites that contained that functionality.

I like the minigame, but I wish it had more depth. There are basically only a few methods to use, and beyond that it's luck or if you've fitted the right things.

Former forum cheerleader CCP, now just a grumpy small portion of the community.
