Cloaking change?

I bought an Improved Cloaking Device and trained my cloaking skill to allow for its use. I installed the device on my ship with the appropriate MWD (10MN). I cloaked and tried to practice the instant warp technique.

And nothing happened. I cloaked just fine, but my MWD won't engage. "Interference from the cloaking you are doing is preventing this device from working."

Why was there a change? There are videos and plenty of sights stating that the MWD will indeed work while cloaked, but after spending almost 10 million ISK on the skill and cloak, I have found out that this is not true.

So FYI, if you are cloaked, your MWD is useless. There is no more instant warping.

Press them both at the same time or the MWD slightly before the cloak. Should be able to press simultaneoulsy due to server ticks, worked just fine for me last night.

Hit cloak, hit mwd within the second.
Often even worked a second later,
due to timing with the server.

Always worked that way.

You have to hit the MWD immediately after turning on the cloak, it won't work the next server tick (i.e. more than a second later.)

It still worked last i checked (yesterday.)

MWD cloak trick (IIRC):

Align
Cloak
MWD immediately after cloaking
Deactivate MWD
Deactivate Cloak at 90% MWD cycle while spamming warp

I always hit MWD then Cloak? Is there a benefit to Cloak then MWD. Seems harder to pull off that way? Additionally my ship aligns faster without MWD on, so often I don't even engage the MWD.

You engage the cloak first because you want to start the cloaking process as soon as you lose your session change cloak from the gate you just jumped through.

^^ this. additionally, activating MWD while decloaked is a big favour to anyone that is trying to lock you

Activated MWD makes your signature radius a lot larger and therefor easier to lock.
YOu need MWD because the improved cloaking device slows your speed down. Because of one cycle mwd you can decloak after the cycle and be at sufficient speed to enter warp immediately.

The basis of the MWD-cloak trick is that ships warp when they have reached 70% of their max speed. When using a Microwarpdrive, both your speed and max speed are increased. When turned off, you will lose a great deal of max speed but will still be moving at the same speed untill drag slows you down. Ergo, at that very moment your current speed actually exeeds the technical max speed value, and if your ship points into the right direction too all conditions to initiate warp have been fillfilled. In this case, the cloak is used to make yourself unlockable in the time between initiating alignment and actually warping off.

Clicking the cloak first is because of aforementioned reasons and because the UI actually alows you to do it in that order. Should the commands be divided over 2 server ticks instead of 1, at least you don't bloom your signature radius and are therefor harder to catch by a rapidly locking ship.

The MWD does indeed need to be off or cycling off when you leave cloak otherwise you will need to reach 75% of mwd velocity which you will be nowhere near.
